« on: December 08, 2005, 07:21:43 AM »
 Hey,Mr.Pig,Tim and clan.Does the Mississippi Queen have 50/60-Cycle hum,Because it is basically a single coil,-p90 in a humbucker "house"?Even if it is ever so slightly more than a humbucker?

"Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'interate"(Yo,Pigman!WTF is me saying?)

There is a little hum when only one pickup is selected but I hardly notice it. Without overdrive it's nearly inaudible.

I sometimes forget I'm actually playing single coils. :)

All single coils will pickup 50/60 cycle hum although the  nickel silver MQ covers really do help shield alot out........I'd go so far as to say they're @50% quieter.

Totally different.
I never played a p90 in the neck and have found it is the best sound I like in the neck.  It is crystal clear with no muddiness, yet has plenty of bass with a nice raw dark crunch sound.  The harder you hit the better it sounds.  I am amazed.

I have spent the night playing my MQ - just blues noodling, but it is just the most awesome pickup - it can go from mellow blues to hot Leslie West classic rock in milliseconds - the noise is, as the man himself says, about 50% of a strat (the noisegate built into my Vox AD30VT kills all MQ noise dead, but not the Strats) - it is bassier than the mule in the bridge (it would be, being in the neck) and somehow 'wider' in its tonality.  It also has that single coil quack and clarity but nearly the same output of the humbucker.

All in all, everyone should have one.  :D

Nice one Wade! Theres some pretty evil stuff going on in that book, well worth a read!
The Mississippi queen is a true P90 under a humbucker cover. The best elements of a single coil and a humbucker. bright, Very clear, but with a lot of balls! There is a slight hum, but is quieter than a normal P90 because of the shieling from the metal cover.
