Ha, i was just gonna point that out.  I've checked out Nolly's stuff with the Rebel Yell on youtube, but unfortunately it's mostly shredding, which helps my situation none.  Nor djenting.  The clip i posted earlier from netmusicians.org is the closest to my style, as it was mostly open chords, detailing the midrange of these pickups.

The harmonics are ridiculous! The only thing i hear that might be weird is a dead center midrange 'alpha frequency'.  It would be described as the pickup's 'vocal" tone quality (as human vocals fall primarily in that range), which obviously rules for leads and rock playing.  So the deficiency in information/practical example comes from not ever hearing it with heavy, high gain.

Dheim maybe?? I'm sure somebody knows what's up....?

Well, I have the clips (just went and had a look in a couple of the main folders I download random stuff into), but I aint posting them without nollys permission (on the off chance that he took them off for some reason other than space on his dropbox)

So, if he

A: Doesnt mind me putting them up/them being back up
B: Doesnt have them anymore

Then I'll upload them to the thread

But I'm not gonna pester the poor bugger about it, you ask him :P

The clips are riffs. Pretty heavy ones.

UPDATE -

The Rebel Yell is staying. It's definitely the closest thing to what i've been looking for.  The Spalt Maple Tele of mine made for a slightly darker sound outta this pickup, which is too bad.  A bit more highs would be perfect, but i have only my guitar's wood to blame for that, i'm dead certain.

Going to change the Telefunkens outta my tube distortion preamp to help get a little more "glass/chime" outta these things.  It's amazing how much tubes can help compensate for deficiencies in highs and lows.  Once a good tone match gets found, i will post a clip.

Cheers, thanks for all of the input everyone.

shuguang tubes in the preamp help with the brightness

Did everything i could with that, trust me...

Actually realized the pickup was installed upside-down (same direction as the neck, oops), which Tim actually said shouldn't matter because of asymmetrical winds??  I will change it to the right way, but don't really expect there to be a significant difference.

Got real boomy with the pickup closer to the strings, so it's sittin pretty far down and im liking the response.  Once i change out one of these Telefunkens for my Raytheon i should probably have the tone where i want it.  Have alot of killer old stock 12ax7s, may just play around to see what's the best combination...

***Correction! have the pickups the right way definitely makes a difference...

I think Tim was just saying it's not "wrong" necessarily; that turning them a different way could be used for experimental purposes... haha

"Does it matter which way round a pickup is fitted? Bare Knuckle humbucker designs feature both symmetrical and asymmetrical coils. Traditionally the screw coil goes nearest the bridge and nearest the neck respectively, but feel free to experiment for optimum tone. "
