What model is it?

It's a Custom Historic R4 BB; basically a re-issue of the original Les Paul Customs from 1954.  It is a wonderful guitar.  Sounds like a really big tele, has a giant neck, and looks awesome.  Also, I got it in an absolutely criminal deal; traded a new Les Paul Deluxe straight across for it.

Here's another pic for your viewing pleasure!

I know nothing about cars, but I do like old ones better than new ones.

It's a Volvo 544 - actually my father's, but it matched the guitar for the photoshoot :D  As for myself, I foolishly own a few British cars instead...  None of which work right now, surprisingly enough

It really is a great guitar.  I don't use the Bigsby too much - but I think the Bigsby makes it look even better, if that's possible :)  I know Tim doesn't make a staple pickup, but a certain part of me has been awful tempted to put one of his P90s in there...

I recently found an original 1976 Explorer on ebay, but it was missing a lot of parts...  Which, of course, seemed like the perfect time to buy some more BK Pickups!  I've had the single coils before, and swear by 'em, but never the humbuckers until now.

Tim suggested a Mule in the neck and Riff Raff in the bridge, and that's what I went with.

Here we are:

It sounds pretty goddamned amazing.  I'm totally sold on the Mule - what a sound!  It actually kind of reminds me of the neck pickup I had on an old 70s Hagstrom once, with that round, clean, giant piano sort of sound.  Really great.

The Riff Raff, on the other hand, isn't my favourite.  Let me qualify that, though, by saying that it is still head and shoulders above any stock humbucker I've ever played...  But, compared to the Mule it's just a bit too thin and weak, no matter how I set the heights etc.  I think it's just because the Mule sounds so big.  We'll see what happens - I may well get something different for the Explorer and move the Riff Raff over to a Les Paul or something.

All that being said, it still rocks out like nobody's business :D

hey they are some nice cover on those pickups - what are they? raw nickel?

Actually, they're the aged set.  They look great - but it's true, under that lighting and from that angle they are very similar looking to the raw nickel.
