God isn't naming a band bloody hard!!! We've got it down to three but can't agree so thought I'd put it to a public vote. We're a Rock covers band playing pubs and bikers rallies and I guess we don't take ourselves too seriously, though we are serious about putting on a good quality show. Here are the choices:

Random Solution
Black Prism
Surrounded by Idiots

"Good evening! We are Surrounded By Idiots."

That takes balls, saying that.

For a fun covers band, I think Surrounded by Idiots works, it even grabs the attention a bit in its own right.

Random Solution sounds like a pop-punk band and Black Prism is a cool name, but maybe a bit pompous (unless you're playing pompous doom, power metal or goth metal of some kind).
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Overall, amongst the people I've asked so far, 'Surrounded by Idiots' does have a slight edge over 'Black Prism' with 'Random Solution' trailing somewhat. Most people's concern over 'Surrounded....' is that the audience may feel insulted but it was meant as a bit of a comment on the frustrations of modern life for most people but it could also be a tongue in cheek poke at the band members as well. 'Black Prism' is a more conventional name and I think it does sound cool but I'm not convinced it's right for what we do. My own choice is 'Surrounded by Idiots' but other band members are a bit worried about the way it may be received.

Having been to a fair few rallies, 'Surrounded by Idiots' gets my vote!, but you would have to have a stage 'thing' that gave that vibe as well... :)

Truth be told, if it's for a covers effort, as long as it's memorable, it doesn't matter at all.

Surrounded By Idiots is a great name! I always wanted our band to be called "Free Admission" so people would flock to the gigs and then we charge them! ha ha

One cover band I played with changed their name every gig, I think it was an attempt to drag punters in thinking they were seeing a different band every week.

While I was with them we played as

  • Zebedee Cosmic and the Deluxe Mobile Freakout
  • Leonard Lenin and the Llama's Pyjamas
  • Three Million Years of Dead Spiders
  • Meltywell Cheese
... and a few others that I can't remember now.

Fork in Hell and The Four Coughs were names we toyed with when I was in a cover band.  I wanted to use the name OD'd on Z's, but the singer (who was the biggest pothead in the world), thought it would have drug overtones!
