Just Sacked Our Bass Player
« on: July 27, 2010, 11:13:26 AM »
... by email.  I know, it's the cowards way out, but time was marching on and the drummer hadn't managed to get around to it.

Had a secret jam with a new bass player last week, and it was a revelation - far better now.  I had comments on here about the bass being lost in the mix for some of our recorded tracks, and the reason was that the bass playing was so poor that we buried it.  So he's in the band and Belinda is out.  Such a shame, as she's a lovely person.  Just not the bass player for us.

First gig with the new lineup at St Annes Castle in Essex on Sunday.  It'll only be the 3rd time we will have played with the new bass player!

Not so much the threat of violence, it's just that she's so nice!  Like sacking your mum.

(not YOUR mum, obviously, rather "ones" mum...)

Ah, that's a shame - I did have a feeling, from those recordings, that the reason there was not enough "thump" is that she's not the sort of bass-player to provide the thump that you guys need...

But email... ... have you no shame?

Email is the way to go.  That's how we sacked our previous singer and we haven't looked back.

My mum's been dead since 1976, so getting sacked would be the least of her worries....

(Not a joking matter I know, but I don't think she'd mind)

People get dumped by email and text so why not get them out of a band in the same way.

Nah... let's make the Bumpster feel as guilty as possible

Hope the gig with the new bass-player goes well :D

Glad the band's better now though, it's rubbish playing in a band if you feel there's a weak link, and everyone else plays worse because of it.

But really, folks need to get a spine. It's a totally cr@p way to let someone go. From anything.

They're going anyway, and will be p*ssed off, so the message is the same regardless of the way it's delivered.

What's the point of pointing yourself in a confrontational face-to-face situtation?

Decency. And a do unto others... mentality.

I'd be fine to be sacked from a band via email, so horses for courses mate!

I think it's also high context dependent.

Unilateral points of view are often more damaging that people being cretins. With that said, the Beatles WERE sh!t, mashed potato is evil, Telecasters are the forbidden fruit of Julian Clary and Pat Butcher, and all traffic wardens, without exception, are fair game for beatings. But hey, every rule has its exceptions. ;)

Mashed potato is evil?

Even with a bit of horseradish or wholegrain mustard?  :?

Wow!!!  I almost UNIVERSALLY disagree with you!!!

She emailed back, and was very nice about it, adding to the Bumpsters guilt...

Saying that, I'm with Dave - if I've gotta go, send me an email rather than all that embarrasing face-to-face stuff.
