Driving around Borehamwood?
« on: August 11, 2010, 06:59:06 PM »
How is it on a Friday morning? I have an interview at a studio at Elstree Way, Borehamwood on Friday at 10am and driving seems like it'll be a lot cheaper than a return train (£46 with railcard which is a full tank of petrol!). Not sure how bad the roads will be though as I've never driven around that area - anyone have any experience and would I be better off getting a train to save stress?

Fairly quiet as it goes Tom. I drive past there near enough every day (girlfriend lives in Bushey which isn't that far).

Roads are fairly easy and I assume you're going to be using the A1(M). As you turn off the A1 into Borehamwood you'll get taken past an industrial area, that's where the studios are. So you haven't got to do much driving around there. Would worry about it at all Tom.

Ok cheers :) Was going to leave really early say half 7 (it's about an hour and a half away) but that seems a bit excessive now! Are there any big car parks in the area (will probably be able to park at the studio but just in case)?

My housemate has some friends who live in Borehamwood. They talk about its suburban-ness.

I'm pretty sure you'll be able to park at the studio. I've only ever been dropped off there as I don't have a car but plenty of people drive. You might need to get the names of whoever you're visiting for any gate security guards but that should bs fine. It's better than Pinewood anyway. :)

Sounds good :) I'm not going to the "proper" Elstree Studios, it's a place called Hexus TV who are apparently quite a big in the technology/gaming sector.

ta :) I'm a bit worried that they'll be looking for someone with professional experience as it's not a Junior role, but then again they've seen my cv/cover letter so know I'm a recent graduate!

Interview cancelled, just as soon as I got there I got a call saying they're stuck out on location so had to reschedule for next Tuesday :x pointless 140 mile round trip but I suppose there's nothing that could be done about it..

At least the roads were clear!

Bad show but you have at least had a dry run and so the new date won't be so daunting and you can concentrate on getting the job.

I would also use it as an internal confidence boost.. they were pretty shabby and should be a little more accommodating when you finally get to the interview.

Yeah I'm not too fussed by it since I guess it's the nature of the industry - strict deadlines that need to be met at all costs etc. Also I think I would have found out about the problem earlier if I had a half decent phone - mine (being absolutely rubbish) didn't have any signal for the majority of the journey.
