I believe that they're named more for the "feel" of the sound of the band/guitarist, rather than being "exact" replica's of the pickups that were used or "modelling" the pickups.

Holydiver - Viv Campbell (now in Def Leppard)
Bibble.
BKP's: Black Dog set, Emerald set, & Crawler set.

Willo, the guitarist in the Yardbirds is, I believe, Jeff Beck- though I stand to be corrected.Jeff used a Tele in those days.... but then so did Eric. Oh blimey I thought I had it sussed for a mo. Lets just say that a Tele seems to have been a component of the early Yardbirds sound and have done with it. ( disappears muttering to himself)

Yes this is what I was thinking - I',m a huge Jeff Beck fan but of course, Jimmy Page was also in the Yardbirds, which then became the New Yardbirds (?) which was essentially Led Zeppelin, and they toured Scandanavia under the Yardbirds moniker as a contractual thing. Anyway, at this time Jimmy Page was using Telecaster as his primary guitar too...its all so confusing!

Anyway, as mentioned above, the names are just general things, rather than specifics. I have VHII's and I couldnt really give two hoots for Van Halen, but who cares, they sound great!
