Trial - Reflections

epic up yer arse!

EDIT: Had to add the lyrics...

the wreckage of humanity has been strewn across the land
and now the hour of desperation is at hand
we the maggots feed off the dead
seeking solace in a bed of broken glass
we bleed infected water
beneath bright skins of polished steel
through empty, yearning, starved and frustrated hearts
which long for risk and reason
this is a standard and sterile half-life to lead
empty facades conceal slow decay
within these new dark ages which breed discontent
to give up all hope to see the dawn
reveals a victims face beneath the veneer
struggling to show that it's been wronged
led astray by the myths of the father
with acient wounds often ignored
fighting for scr@ps from the table
while slowly we rot on the floor
struggling for balance amid these unholy lies
reflecting terror and chaos
we are born into suffering
with constructs, icons, idols and eyes
which manifest and forecast our fear of our own demise
but on the eve of the apocalypse
you can burn these words into my flesh:
"we are the tortured and insane disillusioned and mundane
unknown and unnamed desperate and enslaved
and we want something more"

Four versions of the "Most Epic Song":

1. Couldn't find complete footage of him performing it, but this is the definitive and "original" version:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wadrAU6baV0

2. Or you can have the songwriter himself singing it in 1999 (not much of singer, but a fine ivory-tickler):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slAzJ19abww

3. This is quite a monster version in a medley by a much better singer:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIqgeUKr9Gg&feature

4. And here's a version by one of my all-time-favourite singers:

There's loads of other versions about (if you want the 70/80s version by that disco woman... search for it yourself...).

Anyway, the search for "Most Epic Song" is over, no-one's ever gonna top this beauty...

How are we defining "epic"?  On a grand scale?  Going through multiple "movements"?  Or just long and/or pompous?
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

I didnt really have a defintion in mind, but to me its a song that sounds sort of big and grand and sweeping. Doesnt really matter how complex it is, and longer is better but not a requisite.

Why, what does 'epic' mean to you? All the above?

Just wondering - I mean sometimes people say "epic" when all they mean is "good".  I think I agree with your definition.

Dang kids!

My favourite "epic" tunes are probably doom or black metal tunes. Or ludicrous 70's prog like Magma, come to think about it.
