Potentiometer and capacitor for a Schecter Loomis
« on: September 06, 2010, 08:07:50 PM »
My new Bareknuckle Painkiller (b)/Miracle Man (n) combo has arrived today and will replace the EMG707s in my Schecter Jeff Loomis signature 7-string guitar!  :D

The guitar has an ash body and maple neck & fretboard, so I think the PK would be very bright. Is there a way to lower the brightness just a bit without sacrificing that massive clarity in all the registers? Maybe by using certain potentiometers and capacitors?

I only need one volume knob and I'd like to use a push-pull knob to split the coils of both humbuckers, if possible.

In case it matters, I mainly play Progressive/Tech/Math metal along with some Jazz Fusion. Let's say the tone I'm after has an emphasis on the high mids ('djenty' if you like). I frequently use massive sounding 7-string chords too, hence my need for clarity.

Any ideas or recommandetions are more than welcome!

i found using the 25k pots that come with most actives (emgs for sure) it made the nailbomb really dark but it also made it sound really boxy and weak too.

maybe 250k would be better but why not get both and try the 500 first to see what you think then if its too bright try the other options?

try the 500k. at worst, go for 330k like gibson does. 250k might be way too dark.

25k for actives is a no no, though i routinely stumble on techs who leave stock pots after a switch from actives to passives
My BK's:
Black Dog8-Riff Raff8 / Black Dog7-Mule7
C-Bomb Set / Blackhawk Bridge
Holydiver Set/ BG50 Set

yeah i wouldnt every advise using a 25k pot it really sucked the life out of the NB and before i realised what i had done i was certain that it was either my new amp or the pickup that was duff as i got both the pickup and the amp at the same time and used them both together.
