Help with pickup covers?
« on: September 16, 2010, 03:22:13 AM »
Hi i own a PRS SE Singlecut in Grey Black flamed maple top with cream coloured pickup rings. Can anyone suggest a nice pickup cover combination to go with the colour scheme of my guitar?

Im getting a CS neck and a NB bridge if anyones interested.

Thanks in advance!

If it was me, I'd go with plain old Chrome, or if I wanted to add a splash of colour, Burnt Chrome.

I prefer Chrome to Nickel because it keeps its "shine" - Nickel ages & looks a bit grubby to my eyes, though some would call that "the vintage look" (I like my guitars to look new).   Also Nickel has a slight yellow-ish tinge in natural light but chrome has a slightly blueish tinge which looks better with the black of the guitar IMHO...

Oooh that's pretty.

I have to say I'd go Chrome on that, too. It would match the bridge and inlays really well.
I suppose you could get open coils to inject some colour that way (but I prefer the look of covered pickups anyway).

Burnt chrome would probably work all right, too...

haha one of the main attractions BKP holds for me apart from the tone is the wide range of cool pickup covers so i wont go for something like zebras or uncovered pickups.

i know chrome will be a safe choice and will look awesome on the guitar but id prefer something flashier (to make up for my lack of skill)  :D

on another note, the pic above doesnt justify how good the guitar looks in person! (couldnt find a better one)

I don't usually chime in on these 'what colour suits' topics, but in this case the guitar looks great and I think chrome or burnt chrome are the only 2 choices.  This guitar really looks like it would suit burnt chrome (and PRS are starting to do guitars with it too).

What about some black battleworn covers? Might look cool in this guitar.

I'm really not digging the burnt chrome look so I would stay away from those, but that's just my personal taste.

I know you've stated that you won't go for "the classics", but I do think that zebras would look cool in reverse at the bridge and normal at the neck.

Should i swap out the cream pickup rings for black ones?

I dont mind chrome but like Mr. Air, I dont dig the burnt chrome look.

Would a camo look good with my singlecut? Or would it just look out of place?

Somehow I like the cream pickup rings even though they might seem a bit out of place on a black-ish guitar. Camo covers might work. They would certainly stand out and give you the "bling thing".

i have found that burnt chrome works really well with a black flame, i have pics of my rga in the users gallery with said setup.,

However my pickup rings and bridge are black chrome (ibanez call it cosmic black or some rubbish like that)
