Fender Blacktop series of humbucker loaded guitars
« on: September 17, 2010, 08:29:01 AM »
This just showed up in my RSS reader.  Fender are sticking humbuckers in everything.  I guess it's no different to what lots of us have been doing for years anyway:

They've brought out dual humbucker models before but these look a bit nicer with the covers.

I like 'em!

Haven't seen them before now, and I only had a quick glance.... the list prices are pretty cheap, presumably they're made in Mexico?

I agree. They really look good.

But somehow I find the idea of a strat with humbuckers a bit odd. To me it's the single coil sound that makes a strat a strat and I want my strat to sound like a strat (that was a lot of strats in one sentence). It's a bit like a LP with singlecoils which is just wrong. Well the LP with singles is surely wrong (except P90s). I don't find a humbucker strat that weird.

I have never been a strat man which might add to my frowning up on humbucker equiped strats.

They have a slightly cheesy quality, like some of the CBS-era stuff, when they were introducing new models just to use up old parts.

But in a good way.

The Jag would interest me but for the short scale length and no maple board option.  I still think I'll be rolling my own.  I do like the Gibson style bridge arrangement though.

I think the Tele looks great, I like everything about it - hardtail Strat bridge, ring-mounted bridge pickup, reverse control plate, amp knobs....

Was that a touch of GAS?

Err...

Nope

Not for me.

I followed the link thinking I would like something there, but, alas, no

That's not entirely true - I do like the black strat, the humbuckers coming out of the black scratch-plate looks pretty good. And yeah the witch hats are pretty cool... But it's still not something I need/want...

i don't really like those at all :(

I love how when e.g. tokai copies Fender or Gibson, it's terrible, but Fender can whack humbuckers into its guitars and it's all good.

They look pretty cool to me - especially the Telecaster.  Now if I hadn't blown 10 years of my GAS budget in a year I might buy one.

If the strat had a hardtail and I'd be all over the maple fretboard/black version! Liking the look of the silver Jaguar as well. Haven't gas'ed for a while so it's about time!
