The title is a clue, but am I right in thinking he was Judas Priest's singer before Rob Halford?

I'd be surprised if anyone's bought it, TBH - is it a CD or a book?

yeah, its a CD. hes remade some of the versions of the material he wrote his way, thought it might be interesting. i see hes also written a book 'dawn of the metal gods'

somehow i thought you or ben might have it ;)

Nah, I usually work on the theory that "the bloke who used to be the singer in Band X before they were famous" has remained in obscurity for a reason....  :wink:

Which may be totally unfair, he may just have been unlucky, but there you go.

well, some songs on 'rocka rolla' are well known to be massively editted, like 7-10 minutes down to 2. apparantly on this album he records for us full length versions.. :?:

Interesting stuff - I saw the first post and went off to spotify... only justy arrived back here via various other threads and messages...

There is one 2009 album by this chap on spotify. It's called "Demon Deceiver". It has Victim of Changes on it, which I listened to...

It's ok, but vocally, to me, he sounded like a "southern american doing his thang" on a Rob Halford toon... so I switched off mentally after a bit. The guitar playing was more fluid and modern than the Sad Wings version, but overall it didn't really grab me.

If he was rockin Rob's predecesor, I guess that the band was a bit more bluesy/pub-rock than the chaps we've come to know and love?

EDIT: Just did a search (on spotify) for Victim of Changes and found a 2010 album "String Tribute to Judas Priest"

I've been investigating a few clips on YouTube.  He's a decent singer, I listened to that version of "Victim of Changes" Andy mentioned, and it's good, the backing track sounds "better" than the original, in the sense that it has a more modern production....

But then I listened to Halford singing it..... he's in a different league altogether. 

So.... good for Al Atkins, I'm glad he's still plugging away.  But I won't be buying his albums.  And I don't think Priest would be where they are if he hadn't left.  I guess that's fate, or something.

Did you listen to any of it? (The string tribute album)

They pretty much seem to have found all the parts on the JP versions and transferred them over to strings. Hellbent for Leather was quite pleasant - but I've always liked the harmonic progressions in that one. I found some of the more riff-based songs a little repetitive when played by a string quartet - and it makes several songs sound VERY similar. Victim of Changes itself was quite interesting - I've always been very fond of it, but this treatment seems to uncover a bunch of stuff that I hadn't noticed in the JP version in 30-odd years of listening to it - I'll have to go back and check :lol:
