NRD (with a bit of a twist)
« on: September 28, 2010, 08:17:59 PM »
It's not strictly new as I've had this for about 7 weeks but I have a new rig for my guitars.  Can you see it?

Look closely... it's a Vox AC30 Amplug

The story is that my missus and I moved out of our old flat and due to the place we're moving to not being ready (a long and miserable story of incompetence by contractors, solicitors, mortgage lenders and the council) we had to put everything into storage and pack a suitcase each, we thought for a week or two until it was all sorted.  I kept out my Strat and got an Amplug as everything else went into the van.  So New Rig Day it is!

Well, it's seven weeks later and we're still homeless but the Amplug's actually pretty good.  It reacts to player touch better than most of the digi boxes I've tried and has quite a pleasing clean sound when played gently.  The Apaches in my Strat don't really have enough oomph to push it into overdriven tones much but I get the impression it would go there if prodded by a pickup with more wallop.  On the downside the tone is very "dry" sounding and inevitably quite thin but I guess much of that is because I'm listening through headphones .  So, to recap, being homless sucks but Amplugs are actually quite a bit better than I was expecting.  Would recommend them for taking on holiday.  Shan't be trading my Cornell though. :)

Hope you move in to your new place soon!

That's a great looking strat - what model is it? Looks like a roadworn.
I think I hate being indecisive.

It started life as a Highway One, it's had Apaches and new electrics, the black controls and recently a Roadworn neck added.  It's my continual work-in-progress guitar.  Next tweak will be a trem block I suspect.

I hope you get sorted soon-in the meantime I was wondering about those amplugs. Might be fun to get one for quick messing around when the mood takes me.

Really nice strat there. The black pups and black controls look so good compared to the regular white ones. And so does the reliced neck.

Hope you get a new home soon so you can play your amp as well as your amplug.

Yeah, hope you get sorted soon...

I've been tempted by those amplugs on and off, nice to hear that they pretty much do what they claim. :D
