I know of somewhere that is selling one dirt cheap (not sure what model it is) have any of you had experience with these amps? i've read some reviews about them on harmony central and it looks promising. What are your views?

I have an old (read, 80s) Pro Tube 30: single channel, 3x 12AX7, 2x 6V6.
It was the first real amp I ever bought, and I still have it.
It kicks butt -- full stop, end of story.

Well do you think it could work well for a thrash/death metal sound?

I don't mean the sound of a rectifier turned to 10 with a gain boost and emgs etc. I mean just enough gain to get a convincing death metal sound but with more dynamics and actually hear every note?

i'd say if you push it hard with a high output pickup and a overdrive pedal, yes, it can do death metal

I can't see why not. Scott Ian form Anthrax used plexis with a pre-amp in the front and listen to the crunch he had years ago.

I've seen a few ads with Mastodon using Laneys. I don't know what sort of music they play though I.E death or whatever  :?

Mastodon are really into Thin Lizzy even though they are much heavier
