^Agreed on the c-'bomb call
and regarding the neck aftermath? how does it compare to the PK (which i'm definitely in love with) ?
As MDV says, it's very bright and defined, even more so than the PK. I'd describe it as along the lines of a DiMarzio Humbucker from Hell in that it has that real single-coil sound. It's also insanely tight, you can riff on it like it's a bridge pickup.
I do believe that neither one of us is deaf, but that the warmth is really going to depend on the guitar.
I'll second this. Actually, I was going to make a whole new thread but I figured I could just put this here. I was just about to order a Painkiller 7 set but seeing that the Aftermath just came out got me thinking. Everyone says it's BKs tightest pickup. My 7 is Mahogany, and I know the AM is supposed to be a bit darker than the PK. Some people are complaining about how "clinical" it sounds but I think it's awesome. The percussiveness and punch is exactly what I'm looking for. Will it be good in all-mahogany or am I better off with the PK?
It's kinda inevitable that since it's new you're hearing so much about the AM, but once the dust has settled the PK isn't going to be redundant.
Anyway, to answer: the AM may be a little smoother up top, but it has less low end so will still work in darker guitars . The PK is going to come into its own for outright punch and upper-mid aggression. In all honesty I think you would be happy with either!
I would take the "clinical" comments with a grain of salt, a lot of that comes down to the playing styles in the clips - the truth is that both pickups are very dynamic and have grindy midrange characters that are far from clinical or sterile.
