he could go wrong - the black would have been the safe choice in roo's guitar.   I will be interested to see how the camo looks!

Gah, thanks Wez! :/

I've currently got an aged nickel miracle man in there, and that looks great with a bit of visibility for the pickup on what is a very dark fronted guitar. I'll obviously post pics when it's in and we'll see!

If it doesnt work shove it in another guitar then get a black one for your main one

One of my first customer Aftermaths came in today, this one in the satin black cover with black poles!

Looks good - now put it in a guitar and tell us how it sounds!  :)

The other guitar is a stage backup. I've not even plugged it in to make sure the black dog works when I swapped over the pickups.

I'm a 1 guitar man :)

I'll second this. Actually, I was going to make a whole new thread but I figured I could just put this here. I was just about to order a Painkiller 7 set but seeing that the Aftermath just came out got me thinking. Everyone says it's BKs tightest pickup. My 7 is Mahogany, and I know the AM is supposed to be a bit darker than the PK. Some people are complaining about how "clinical" it sounds but I think it's awesome. The percussiveness and punch is exactly what I'm looking for. Will it be good in all-mahogany or am I better off with the PK?

Its not has hot, brighter, much, much chimier character, like its in parallel all the time (its actually brighter in series in my SLSMG than the HD in parallel in the Aurora, which has much more top end than the SLSMG). It will convey a nice warm low end if the guitar has it (I find mine 'warm', and have only had it in a pretty bassy & low middy guitar; nolly doesnt find his 'warm' so it can be infered that either one of us is deaf (up to you, that one) or its 'warmth' is guitar-sensitive).

And according to you what would be in the BKP ceramic range an AM with just a tad less surgical tightness while giving little more wet-ness (if it means anything) and thickness to the tone  :?:.

^Agreed on the c-'bomb call

As MDV says, it's very bright and defined, even more so than the PK. I'd describe it as along the lines of a DiMarzio Humbucker from Hell in that it has that real single-coil sound. It's also insanely tight, you can riff on it like it's a bridge pickup.
I do believe that neither one of us is deaf, but that the warmth is really going to depend on the guitar.

It's kinda inevitable that since it's new you're hearing so much about the AM, but once the dust has settled the PK isn't going to be redundant.
Anyway, to answer: the AM may be a little smoother up top, but it has less low end so will still work in darker guitars . The PK is going to come into its own for outright punch and upper-mid aggression. In all honesty I think you would be happy with either!
I would take the "clinical" comments with a grain of salt, a lot of that comes down to the playing styles in the clips - the truth is that both pickups are very dynamic and have grindy midrange characters that are far from clinical or sterile.

uhm... all this talking about the AM made me wanting one, of course, but made me re-evaluating my MMs nonetheless, and i discovered that their real reason to be - at least in my ibby RGA - is low B tuning, and i think they'll stay there, because i really love their tone...
BUT i'm really thinking to swap my last bridge PK (in an Ibanez S470) for an AM... the S is not an easy guitar to tame, with its bright middy shallowness, i thought that exalting its natural tone with a direct - hi-middy bright pickup could have some sense, but to be honest the result is a mixed bag...
my POD loves it while my amps don't. and i'm not keen in keeping it as a POD friendly guitar that i ended using just once every 3-4 months!

so my question is: could an AM (that now i've learned to have a tad less lows but much more low mids and no hi mid spike) be an intelligent choice for that guitar?

well if nickel looks alright you should be ok, the camo is mostly aged nickel colour tones - just taken a fair bit further

miracle man

I've seen a few people in some forums making excuses to try the new model instead of choosing the best fit for their styles and guitars (not saying you're one of them)
that's a mistake, just like the painkiller trend that was happening earlier this year
