The miracle man will definitely push you amp hard enough for any kind of metal.

It's an absolute beast of a pickup. It will cover most things and is more than hot enough on the output scale the only thing i dislike about it sometimes is the massive amount of low end but this can easily be rectified using the amps EQ.

As far as metal goes, I play stuff like Megadeth, Metallica, Death,  Slayer, Children of Bodom, and Necrophagist. I also use coil taps from time to time. Low end is good. I want a bridge pup with chunk.

It has the low end chunk that you are looking for and can absolutely nail the tones of the bands you have listed.

i haven't tried it with any splits though so i can't comment on that

We went for a black covered set to begin with - we may even get them in a guitar for review

How would the Aftermath compare to the original Gibson Dirty Fingers humbucker? (Since the Dirty fingers is a sound I am familiar with.)

Ceramic magnet, 3 of them, one main huge one, 2 flanking. 15k, output somewhere between nailbomb and painkiller. Native double screw pole design, like the warpig.

Very aggressive sound, tightest pickup Ive ever played through, similar mid level to a PK but without the high mid spike and it feels a little darker and snarlier and growlier to play through. Not a terribly large amount of bass; the double screw pole is there to bring the low end up to a balanced level on a bright wind, rather than add more for a really heavy sound like the pig. Ultra-precise, very high attack, lots of dynamics preservation (not very compressed) so sounds bigger and in your face than the MM and C-Pig.

Cheers for the shout Antag (nice for my involvement, such that it was, to be remembered :)), but I have to clarify; I didnt come up with it; I was after a pickup for the Aurora, and Tim suggested I try this nameless new pickup he's working on for his own band, designed for fast moderm metal rhythm, suspects I'd like it and wants a bit of feedback on the design. I tried it, my feedback was 'thats awesome, get it out now! (and here we are more than a year later). Tim expected that it would become  a new pickup in the lineup but it wasnt ready yet (the neck wasnt finished at that time and he hadnt gig tested it yet) so had no trouble with me mentioning it way back then as a one-off custom made for me (which it was as things were with it then, back in late 2009) but we kept it on the quiet for a while at least that it was going to be a fully available proper pickup in the lineup.

I named it in the spirit of BK naming; for the vibe rather than the exact tone, and the vibe to me was Origin, Antithesis, The Aftermath; savage, aggressive, fast, was adapted for very complex metal due to ultra-tightness and precision.

So there you go; the (main bits of the) history of the aftermath so far as I saw it

I think the number of people that got one pre-release was 5.

Having used the Aftermath now in a 6 string I'd say it is similar ballpark to the dirty fingers but way tighter and with maybe a more controlled treble e a much tighter bass response - it loses the flabbiness that the gibson DF could have

think if I could find a hybrid between the Aftermath and Cold Sweat I would be a very happy boy

I'm so happy with my aftermath, it's exactly what I wanted for this guitar in the first place! Really aggressive and tight (unfeasibly tight). The bass isn't as strong as the MM (that would be tough), but it's got punch and grind, a fairly strong midrange, and a smooth-ish top end, too.

I'm a very happy camper :)

I really shouldn't be interested in a pickup like this, but I'm liking everything I'm hearing about it. I'd be quite interested to know if there are any other "vintage tone" types like me who are feeling drawn this beastie and wondering what they could do with it...

With its really forward mid and aggressive response, and the fact that it backs off well to crunch sounds, is quite uncompressed and has decent cleans I wouldnt be suprised if it went down well with someone that likes, say, Origin (who wrote the song I named it after) and ACDC. It can give you a great mid-gain screaming lead sound if you dial it in right.

I was doing MSg and UFO stuff on it and it sounded great
The tight bass response is wonderful , although I found myself wishing for a little more treble (I'm a treble junkie to be fair).
It was way more engaging for me than say a Nailbomb
Would be interesting to hear it in a bright guitar

I've had it in a brighter guitar. The guitar still has a fair bit of low end, but a lot less than the others I had it in. Jackson DX1, gotoh trem. The amount of low end dropped a surprising amount and the mids got VERY grindy and aggressive.

I put a C-Bomb back in that guitar, that sound wasnt for me.

I find it surprising that you through the AM lacked treble. Its got plenty to my ears. But then if youre a treble junky, and love the CS, I suppose it adds up. Would be boring if we were all the same, no?
