Removing covers. Possible problems?
« on: October 29, 2010, 07:17:45 PM »
I know that BKPS are wound to compensate for the covers but will it be a huge difference if i remove them?

i've outgrown the burnt chrome look and rather than sell my MM and buy another without a cover i thought i could just remove the cover.

I presume its just a case of desolder the bottom and remove then lean up all the excess wax?

coincidentally, i just did this last night.

the sound matches the usual descriptions of removing a cover, brighter and slightly more output (i have a PK).

i just did it by desoldering the bottom two areas, and boiling a small pot of water, letting it cool a bit, and dunking the pup inside until i could "peel" it off without any damage to the coils

then i cleaned the coils and reinstalled.
I'm not good enough, technically, to be a classic musician. I lack discipline.
