You'll be needing some Apaches as well!

The pre-amp looks interesting - never bothered using one before. Just been reading up on them. Did you go looking for tube preamp, or were you after something that provided phantom power and you might as well get a preamp that did it?

exactly - i realised my multitrack didn't have phantom power, so thought i might as well get a preamp. the behringer was pretty cheap, and it got good reviews so i went for that.

edit: regarding the apaches, i've tried them many times and like them.. but its funny, i just don't have any GAS for them at all. i am looking at a new strat for Sultans though, maybe something cheap will come up.

Yep, he is a bad influence. He's made me GAS for a roadworn strat and I can't afford it. Cheers Andy, you're a gem!

All part of the service :D

(btw, my thinking is RW is cheaper than CS, so you are in a better place than you were...)

Fair comment.  And if you haven't got a tube preamp you can't be held responsible for that either.

Justice for AndyR!

interesting.. even with a dynamic mic, like this Thomann SM58 copy (I got it as a backup for gigs) the audio quality into my multitrack is noticeably better with the behringer preamp, than just cranking the gain up on the multitrack. admittedly, i needed the preamp to phantom power the condenser, but nevertheless it is a good improvement, and more than worth the money i spent on it.

its not night and day, but there is more detail, and less noise. it may say more about the pres on the multitrack (a zoom mrs8) but the behringer does get decent enough reviews.

meanwhile i'm enjoying having a condenser again :) leaving headphones on, and listening to things in the far distance

Cool - I might look into getting one of these behringer thingies. Already seemed worth it just to see what all the fuss about mic preamps is :D

i think it would definitely be good with the microBR.. with the 1600, i don't know, since that seems like a more quality bit of kit. behringer only £35 though

Hmmm... this is making me think more about recording again.  Haven't touched Cakewalk since joining the band really, but I do love home recording.

Can I blame that on AndyR too?

Poor Andy is geting blamed for everything and yet if im not mistakenthis thread has  given him the bug to go out and spend on  a preamp.  These forums are costly but good fun.
