MM and wood combinations

I'm thinking about a custom superstrat SL1 style (Floyd Rose) with the MM/Trilogy HSS set. I'm between two wood combinations.

1. korina/maple 5pc neck, ebony fretboard, korina body wings

2. the standard soloist (maple neck, ebony fretboard, alder wings

Do you think the korina one with the MM would have too much low end or the Floyd Rose would compensate to that?

If no1 would have too much lows...can the MM fill the spectrum of a standard soloist combination (no2) so it'll have enough low end?

The guitar would be for Heavy Metal. Think In Flames as the heaviest limit.

I think both options would work extremely well with the MM's voicing the korina option will probably be slightly darker though but i can't see any major problems coming up

I'm going for a deep low mid voicing mostly. Maybe korina is a bit better for that.

the alder may have a sharper attack however it depends really on what you are wanting.

It would probably be best waiting for some of the luthiers to show up as they have a far better understanding of woods than i do

I can't tell how this would work with a MM - never tried them and I'm not really into metal  - but given that you're after a "deep low mid voicing", and assuming (from your description) it's going to be a going-trhu neck, I think korina/maple would give you a better balance. Just remember that with a going-thru neck, the wings only marginally affect the tone, so the most important part is really the neck. A full maple going-thru neck will give you very tight but not overly present lows and screaming hi-mids. Mixing it Korina would IMHO warm up the tone and bring a bit more low end oomph.

I would recco a Painkiller set before Miracle Man in that setup ...

Actually I've had quite a few ceramics with similar tone as the painkiller which is towards the upper spectrum and I'd like something different this time. The low mid orientation of the MM got my attention as the korina (limba) wood too.

Yeah the guitar is gonna be neck-thru and once the neck is the most important I was thinking of a 5pc neck (2korina/3maple - much more maple than korina) and ebony fretboard. So maybe the MM could fit in there tonally.

A 3korina/2maple neck could be a bit on the warm side so then the MM might be a bit too bassy.

On the other hand the all maple neck and the ebony fretboard could be a bit weak on the low end for In Flames kind of stuff.

Anyway I'm still in the decision phase of the project and every case is open for me...

Also the kind of music this guitar is going for is Heavy Metal, Thrash and Death (Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, In Flames, Exodus, maybe some power too like Gamma Ray etc).

I asked Tim and he said that for a low mid voicing I should go with Miracle Man cause it has a huge low mid presence with tight lows and clear highs. That's what I'm really after. ;)

Korina should work great, my korina 7-string has a wonderful midrange character, and with the Miracle Man in there you'll have the low-mid voicing you want.
