NSD - Eminence Ragin Cajun
« on: November 09, 2010, 02:16:45 PM »
Just got one of these for my Princeton Reverb Reissue

http://www.lean-business.co.uk/eshop/eminence-ragin-cajun-8ohm-75watt-patriot-10-guitar-speaker-p-757.html

I've only had a quick try so can't really post a review but initial impressions are good.  Compared to the stock C10R it is has much more of everything and sounds a lot bigger.  Louder, better bass, smoother top end, more balls.
Actually sounds bigger than when I used my Laney 1x12 cab with a celestion seventy 80.

My first though was that it sounds like a 12" rather than a 10".  In comparison the Jensen can sound small and papery (for want of a better word).  It is nice at home level volumes but turns to mush when cranked so with the Eminence it's nice to be able to use a few more of the Princetons watts (sensitivity is 100db)

I'll upate this when I've lived with it a little but looks like a good value, good sounding and loud 10" speaker....

never tried one, but it's meant to be very nice. Might get one for my vht special 6 if I ever get round to it (though I've heard several people saying the stock speaker is pretty nice and actually pretty close to one of the eminence legend 10" speakers).

Nice score :)

The PRRI is rather let down by the speaker in my opinion; the C10R is not one of my favorites to say the least.

I interviewed Jeff Bober from Budda/EAST Amplification last month, and he had nothing but good things to say about the Ragin' Cajun. You can check it out HERE: http://ampsnthings.com/?p=33

Good interview, enjoyed that!

I used mine at rehearsal last night and the PRRI really has no trouble with a loud drummer now.  It is definitely a not too colouring speaker as Jeff says.  The highs are very smooth, a bit like the Crex.  There's no breakup or sizzle you get from some speakers but I like the smoothness with the Blackface cleans.  You definitely hear more amp than speaker but it does add it's own pleasant subtle thing.

Can't wait until it breaks in!
