Maybe I'm a little paranoid, but how long before speed cameras are put in them on the sly? That'll mean if you step over the limit anywhere on any major road you'll get points.
And there's some news articles on that site from a while back that say it's not going to be long before all new cars have black boxes installed, to monitor, amongst other things, you know what....

There was a tv show on in the Meridian TV area tonight with views for and against the cameras.Without going into all that, the 10% = 2 mph thing was confirmed in some areas but the amazing thing, in the age of uniformity, is that it can vary depending upon the area- as in the zero tolerance for North Wales. There is a legal challange underway by a guy call Idris Francis and he is challenging the way that the registered keeper is sent a letter asking that he/she admit their guilt and pay a fine or risk a bigger fine if they dont. The reason it is being challenged is that it is a breach of a citizens right to remain silent- apparently it could spell the end of the current method of enforcement.I shall stay away from controversy by expressing a view. I gather that the authorities are currently testing speed cameras that fit into cats eyes and they might not give us warning of there locations.

I know that until a couple of years ago anyway (from a friend who is a traffic cop) there is a 7% (as I remember) variance on the speedometer of your car, therefore any speed cameras should allow for this variance.

The reason for this is because it is in the majority of cases the speedo a mechanical device which is subjected to wear over time.

Tyre size / wear also affects this value as speedos

This is (apparently) one of the main reasons that the camera partnerships will NOT release information on what their limits are. Simply beccaue a driver can in 'good faith' think he / she is travelling @ 70 (according to his speedo) and actually be travelling 75.

In the past the authoritys in Northern Ireland used to set up vans and have a two camera system which read number plates and checked the tax disc (yeah I know far fetched but true).

Work with the Police here in Texas US, but have some insight into UK also.

1. 10% rule (used to) be talking about the accuracy of Radar Guns (handheld). They were not (and still really not) 100% balls on dead accurate) so a margin was allowed. Also they have to have a certificate of test/calibration regularly (although it differs per manufacturer of gun itself) and if out of test date, by even a day, it is NOT legal.
2. Gatso, oh my god! Not here thankfully but....... My Dad uses a "Road Angel" I think it is, and it has saved his but, many many a time. You can download the stationary updates free from online straight into it and it picks up the "roving" cameras also.
3. I would say "challenging" a ticket is a risk but often a good "bet". An officer has to turn up and that is often more costly to a force than the fine and hence it is dropped. Works here anyway.

Over here it takes months before you receive anything. (So you don't precisely remember all the details of the event :twisted: ) And even if you disagree, you have to pay first.

If then, by some miracle, the judge finds you're right, you have a very limited amount of time to ask for your money back.

Motorists are being hunted like pheazants in this country.

if I remember correctly (when I lived in Netherlands) if caught speeding over a certain limit they took your car. Plain and simple car gone, for GOOD!
Diamond merchant I knew said another guy got his Ferrari taken on second day of having it for doing over 100mph on motorway.

Also, Netherlands has two Apache Helicopters on Police Force right? Used to have as caught some bank robbers using one whilst I was there.

If you go 50 kph over the limit they'll take your licence, the judge will decide wether or not you'll get it back. Extreme speeding and reckless driving will cost you your licence and car.

I haven't heard about the Apache helicopters on the police force. They should use those for football riots.

An Apache in your rear view mirror, that'll scare you to death. Especially when your laser detector detects missile lock.

Yeah
blew me away when I saw it.
Was about 14 years ago dealing with a bank robbery in Utrecht I think.
Anyway, deciphered some of the news (where saw first), then was in the paper the next day. Then asked a Dutch friend and he confirmed they were Police Apache's!!!!!!!!!!
They were LOADED, evrything cept missiles it seems.
They caught the robbers in a wood at duck using thermal imaging!!!!!!!

Now THAT'S a pursuit vehicle!
