It looks like agile are starting to make 9 string guitars

http://www.rondomusic.com/9.String.Guitars.html

they don't have any listed yet but its linked off the main page.

I wouldn't ever dream of owning one but thought it may be of interest to some of the low note lovers on here

so i posted it so they can keep checking back for when they add products

these guys shall stop smoking crack... Can't understand but most guitar players I see play wants a mega-ultra treble tone or mega-ultra bass... These last should really play the bass guitar instead...

And lots of Bass players wanting a guitar tone... To me it's all $%&#ed up...

I agree whole heartedly 6 strings is more than enough for me.

If i were to add strings id want to be adding higher strings after id learnt to master the 6 i already have.

But im biased as i hate guitars tuned lower than D i think they sound awful

I like some drop tunning.. untill Bb or A, depending on the tone... But more than it is just idioty...

At least in my country is hard to find a "music teacher" to guitar, mostly are "guitar teacher", there is a LOT difference... Then people ain't think in how the instrument shall behave with the others in the band...

Is like classical music to me: Violin get a range, Cello another and Bass other! People keep on their line letting others work and the three together make things much nicier than just one of them...

Don't be booing me :P

Have you tried your aftermath in a higher tuning its got a far better attack and even more tightness :D

I just prefer the overall attack and clarity in higher tunings.

Another factor of it is probably that i don't like to use strings thicker than 10s i generally use 9.5 DR Tite fits though

Oh they definitely have some great deals on there.

im intrigued by this currently

http://www.rondomusic.com/al3000thrubbrq.html

Unsure on the looks but if it plays anything like my old al2500 i imagine that it will be a winner especially as i imagine it to sound immense due to the construction.

Extremely good quality instruments for the prices

As Fernando right says, there's a place for specific instruments - violin, viola (don't forget the violas!), cello and double bass for the string section of an orchestra or ensemble, for example.

And in the case of our band, we have vocals, baritone guitar, bass and drums. It's a different setup by nature - the drums are spread over a wide frequency range, the bass obviously takes care of the punchiness and fatness in the low end, but there's still a role for a baritone guitar to fill up the low mids with aggressive grind.

Liking or disliking it is a subjective matter, and has no influence on whether there is or isn't a place for low tuned guitars ;)

And while I'm on this rant, Beethoven asked for wider scale pianos to be made for his compositions, as the instruments at the time didn't have enough range (in either direction, I believe).

Pushing the boundaries of what we do with physical instruments is not a new thing, but it is a good thing for the continuing evolution of instruments and music in general.

they had 2 models in the 9 string section the other month, they were set up as 6 strings in E standard, and then 3 low strings like a bass in E, so range wise there was only a whole tone difference compared to a normal 8 string

Yes, the Violas!! This might be the most off-the-light-spot instrument ever!

i have been considering a 9 - but strung doublecourse like a 12 string on the GBE strings. its been done before by a few companies and works well.  it may be the way agile are going ???

Violas have a sweet sound for harmonising with violins.

And i don't think that low tunings are wrong they just arent for me.

And to wez i have no idea i haven't actually seen them yet so we'll have to wait and see

A multiscale fan fret baritone 9 string perhaps?
So many pickups, so little time
