Introductions, and PU Advice!
« on: December 11, 2010, 01:17:32 AM »
Hello, all!

Brutalix here: a Yank in the Land of the Rising Sun by way of NYC for 17yrs.
Tim gave me some wonderful advice for new PUs for my Jackson RR1T, but before I make a final decision to pull the trigger, just wanted some players' opinions....thank you in advance!

Thinking of a Warpig in the bridge: Tim said it would be great for balancing out the tone, as alder n maple are bright...curious about what to swap the Jazz for, though I like it...I love Corrosion of Conformity's 90s sound

I wouldn't have thought that anything we can tell you is going to be better advice than Tim will give you. If he suggests a Warpig for the bridge then that's what you should buy without a doubt and I'd equally take his advice about the neck pup. The Warpig is very powerful so it would need to be a really hot pup to give you balance so I'd suggest either another Warpig or perhaps either a Holy Diver or Nailbomb.

Sorry, I accidentally locked the thread!

My thanks....Doadman and Mr. Hellstyle!

I think I'll just put in 2 Warpigs...they sound great on a YouTube clip I heard...

Is ceramic really THAT brutal? I can live with that! Lol Are the WPs better for downtuning? I don't go lower than D....

I don't consider D as downtuning - you'll be absolutely fine with any BKP in that range. If you're talking B standard/drop A or lower, only then would I have reservations about the warpig.

Tim's advice is always good - go with it!

Welcome to the forums :)

I like it to be as clean as can be when there's no distortion, but not too grungy when it's on: I love low-end on both PUs, but really would want the neck not to be as heavy as the bridge....
To be honest, I use both pretty much the same...

Thank you so much, Roo!
Actually, downtuning isn't my thing much at all, but wondered if that was what WPs were bought for...
