Just interested in anyones opinions on this amp TSL 122 combo.Gibson Flying V (fitted with a set of Crawlers) Gibson Les Paul Standard(Burstbuckers but shortly to be fitted with a set of Mules). Finally what sort of sound I can expect to get from the Mules as opposed to the Crawlers. I'm really happy with the Crawlers they have transformed the V but I would like something a bit different for the Les Paul.

Cheers

You'll get a much more open tone, although not lacking in power, they won't be as hot as the Crawlers but no slouch all the same. There'll be more bite in the highs and the bass should be warmer and not so prominent. The focus of the mids is broader and overall there'll be more dynamics too.

Dunno about the combo, but I had the ½ stack with a 100 watt head and I loved it at the time.

Keith,
I used to have a TSL122, and I thought it was a brilliant amp. I only sold it because I just wasn't using it (at the time).

The only thing with the TSL's is that it's not a "plug & play" amp, you have to spend a wee bit of time with it, tweaking the EQ to find that sweet spot (especially on Ch.2 & 3), but when you find that sweet spot... You'll know you've hit it!

My only advice is to run it with an attenuator.

Hi Skybone thanks for the reply I have a THD hotplate which I was going to get rid of but after your comment I might keep it now.

Guitarist in the band I play bass with has the JCM2000 half-stack too, and it sounds pretty good; plenty tones in it! Mind you, it doesn't sound as good as it would if he replaced his DiMarzios with BKPs and stopped scooping his mids so excessively! ;)

i can't say that i'm a huge fan of the JCM2000 series. they are versatile i suppose, but for the money, they never sound outstanding, just fizzy.
They're not a bad amp at all, but not what I'd expect from a Marshall.
I was looking at them yesterday actually and it made me laugh ro see that there's a button on the TSLs to scoop the mids, haha.
LOVING the Mules!

Hi Indy I dont use the mids scoop button, but I got this amp after trying a mates who has the same amp (he doesnt have a fizzy sound) so I put the V through it and with the BKPs it sounded great. I suppose if I had the funds I would like a Hughes and Kettner Triamp they sound great.
Thanx for the opinions

The mid scoop buttons are best left well alone, where the "deep" switch is great... ;)
