Need Help Wiring Braided Two Conductor to 5-way Selector
« on: December 23, 2010, 07:52:19 AM »
Hey folks,

I was hoping my first post would be in the audio demos section, but it seems I've run into a bit of a problem. I bought an Ibanez Prestige RG1527 and at the same time I ordered some of the new Aftermaths and chose the braided two conductor option since I only wanted to do pure humbucking and didn't care too much for advanced wiring options. I got the stock Ibby pups out no problem and my heart was sinking the whole time since I was then at a loss for how to connect my new pups since I didn't have multiple colored wires. Plus I only have one volume and one tone knob ...

Am I going to have to send these pups back to get them changed to the four conductor or is there anyway I can still wire them (if you have some wiring diagrams specific to my problem, that would be phenomenal!)? Thanks for your help! Oh and sorry if this has been posted before, but I've been frantic trying to figure this out and haven't gotten the proper chance to do serious research via the search tool haha. Thanks again!

Cheers,
Chris

What options do you want?  I could do a diagram if I knew what kind of pup sounds you wanted (ex. 1 = bridge, 2 = bridge direct to output jack, etc.).  Two conductor is generally really simple in terms of wiring.
I'm not good enough, technically, to be a classic musician. I lack discipline.

basically you are converting it to telecaster style wiring
and can either use the 5-way you have (ignoring the 2 middle settings) or buy a 3-way - but the wiring is the same

I guess this is how it was:

but this is probably what you want:

(that doest look good, here is the link http://terrydownsmusic.com/Archive/wiring_diagrams/gfs_tele_wiring_diagram.gif)
so inner core of the 2-conductor to the switch, outer braid to the back of pot with the rest of the ground connections
