Holydiver Neck? Similar to SD Jazz?
« on: January 10, 2011, 02:54:04 PM »
I know the Holydiver bridge is supposedly modeled after a Dunca (I've been told a JB)
What is the neck pickup based on?

is there a BK neck pickup similar to the Jazz in a 7? I love how glassy sounding the Jazz so if there is a BK 7 string version of it I'd be vey interested in it.
any clips of the holy diver neck with gain (some melodic shred?)
can I be the devil on your shoulder?

I think the HD neck is quite a bit hotter than a Jazz - a Stormy Monday might be closer?

The Holy Diver may well be based on a JB but my understanding is that it's based on the voicing (not the specification) of the original JB and not the rather less impressive version that is sold now. I have a modern JB now and as soon as I have the money for a BKP it's going. That said, I'd say that while I think the Holy Diver neck sounds fantastic, it may be too fat and warm for what you appear to be after. I think I've heard the Painkiller neck described as glassy but an exact suggestion may depend on what you currently have in the bridge position. I'm guessing it's a JB, in which case I suggest you spend the bit extra and change them both.

I'm actually thinking about the pickups in my Bernie Rico 7 string.
I have the Crunchlab/Liquifire combo in there right now and I already have a Rebel Yell 7 coming for the Bridge,
as the CrunchLab is not doing it for me. the Liquifire is a Ok but it's not very high outbput so a BK neck pickup
will probably be a good idea to match up with the Rebel yell. I had a ColdSweat neck in my Carvin 7 that I really liked
but it wasn't really "glassy" sounding more like a 59 than a Jazz,, my Ibanez 7 has a Painkiller neck in it already, again not all that "glassy" sounding. what about the Mule?
this is a clip i did with my Jakcson soloist that has a Jazz in the neck (it's an all Mahogany SL2) I switch to the neck at 1:15 of the clip, I get close to this with my MArk IV too, so it's not the amp

never say that again  :x :x :x

even an epiphone pickup sounds more "glassy" than a '59
the cold sweat sounds NOTHING like a '59 at all, and I've made a straight swap in the same guitar
'59 was completely scooped and muffled, and made my les paul sound like my old digiorgio classical guitar with 10 years nylon strings
I've tried several BKPs and the cold sweat is the one that stayed from the beginning

try a riff raff
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

I think you touched a nerve there!

I'm not sure what to suggest to be honest. You don't seem struck on the Painkiller and the Cold Sweat (a super popular neck pup that I'd have thought would be perfect) doesn't seem to do it for you either. They seem to be the most likely candidates to me. How about an Aftermath neck or maybe a VHII?

I'm not against the coldsweat neck at all, just wondering what else in the line would give me what I'm looking for.  :)

I have not had a SD jazz for a long time, however from memory my AV Mule would be the nearest to it! maybe the Riff raff woul be in that area as well.

The HD neck is not what you want imo.

Try a Riff Raff neck or a Nailbomb neck, both have a lot of attack.
