i had yet another lengthy pickup discussion w/ Nick @ The Axe Palace, and after discussing my options and what i was looking for that i wasnt getting with the PK, he and I agreed on the aftermath.  So my order is placed and now the wait begins :D

just as a sidenote, if anybody here hasnt dealt w/ Nick before, he is a top notch individual to deal with.  His business ethic and his personality as a person is the best ive ever had the pleasure of dealing with, and I highly recommend his store to anybody looking for awesome high end stuff.

Tightness as far as strings go is a compromise between tension and mass.

Anyway a mahogany body/mahogany neck rosewood board guitar is not the best choice for a tail-less bass response. ;) you can change things trying pickups with little bass content as mahogany has enough. Also there is no wood to enhance high mid frequencies so the sound from the guitar is lows-low mids and highs mostly. That's why it sounds fizzy. ;) Highs without high mids can get fizzy easier.

i'm not so sure, i've got a wenge neckthrough that's full of high mids!

Ah, I should be more specidfic. I meant in the particular mah/mah/rosewood guitar. ;)

Generally there are many woods to enhance high mids. One of them being our very familiar maple.
