Bridge PU to tame a bright Les Paul
« on: January 20, 2011, 05:26:17 PM »
Hey guys,
I have an Epiphone Elitist LP Custom that is a little bit on the bright side. I wanna thicken it up, and I prefer a medium hot humbucker for the bridge. I'm thinking Nailbomb, or Holy Diver, or maybe even a Crawler? I'll be using it for heavy rock, tuned down to D or C#. Tonal range would go from The Cult to Alice in Chains to DOWN. What do you think? Thanks.

Holy Diver is warm and thick, but still organic sounding.

Thanks guys!
Nailbomb was the word back from BKP when I emailed...but  thnk I'm leaning towards the Diver now.
I'm sure either one will do it for me.

Not the Rebel Yell, it is full of high mids and will be too bright.  I would go with the holydiver myself, but if Tim has said Nailbomb then that's what you should try.
So many pickups, so little time

the nailbomb has darker upper mids, but a lot more top end than the diver

having tried the JB, motor city afwayu (Jerry Cantrell's pickup since 2009), the nailbomb and the holy diver, all in les pauls, I gotta say the diver is the best AiC pup ever
smoother and more open than all the others mentioned

for some reason, Tim almost always recommends the nailbomb for heavier rock (maybe it's his personal favorite?)
the nailbomb is a good option for Down, since they use very hot pickups (anderson h3+, duncan invader, emg 81)
