I played a load of them today (including a late 60s one), bizarrely!

Where did you find them?

Denmark Street - the shop at the end on the left which has 3 floors near the 12 Bar Club. They seem to have a few 60s, 70s and 90s ones.

(naturally they were all overpriced)

What used to be Musicground I suspect.

thats it

I tried a guitar in Music Ground recently. They told me it was new and the knocks it had were from storage. However I had photos on my phone from a forum where someone had the same guitar listed for sale... the serial numbers matched. No explanation about that one.

I think I'd have to buy a lefty and play it upside down though
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

I wonder what a custom 'Fireman'-style version of the SGV would be like?

Nice to see they've kept the old tradition going with the newly formed pheonix that's risen from the musicground ashes. Funny what you can do by adding an inc. to the end of the biz name.

Be funnier watching them explain how they get their stock to Leeds magistrate.

Aw that thing's beautiful, Gwem. Kinda like the offspring of an Iceman and a Rickenbacker 4003. I'd really love one in white with a red tortoise-shell pickguard or sunburst with a black pickguard and gold hardware.

I like it. Something different. Not chic, but cool in it's own way.

I know someone who has bought a Fender Precision Bass from musicground leeds in the past and it turned out to be a fake with a waterslide logo under the varnish on the neck.

The first thing that made him spot it was the fact that he checked the serial number online and it came back saying it was from 1981 when this thing looked brand spanking new.

upon closer examination the headstock was quite badly cut and very rough around the bottom edges where it had been cut from a blank and then just varnished over.

i personally wouldn't have made this mistake as i refuse to give them any money since the staff are complete dicks but i guess its easily done when they rush you in and out in 5 minutes not giving you a chance to play anything.

Once i was going in to buy a LTD dave mustaine V and they demanded to see cash before letting me try it (i had it) so i refused on the principle that they thought i was just coming in to piss around when i had phoned them an hour earlier asking if they still had it in and asking them to put it to one side.

If you can't tell im not fond of the company....

well, soon after i posted this i was able to pick one up for a pretty nice price in an out-of-ebay deal.

i straightaway found i'd got a really nice one. standing up and sitting down the guitar has really nice balance and a friendly neck.

i worked out some modifications with Jonathan at Feline Guitars and I used it on my recent tour:

there is a new pickguard with rearranged controls and DiMarzio pickups - an Area 67 in the neck, and a Paul Gilbert Injector in the bridge. no regrets about the dimarzios - its true they aren't like real single coils, but they've done a really nice job on them anyway. i think tim should definitely look into doing some.
