I just realised i hadn't yet shared this.
http://soundcloud.com/northlaneaus/abrasumenteMy band is recording our debut full-length in april and we recorded this track with a friend of ours to gauge the methods we would use for the real thing.
I wasn't too happy with the mix/tone to be all honest, there is much too much lows in the guitars, they don't sit high enough in the mix and there isn't enough bass, not to mention something funny going on in the lows on the snare and the vocals aren't compressed enough.
For guitars we used an Ibanez RGT320Q (mahogany wings, maple/walnut neckthrough, maple top, rosewood board) for the rhythms with C-pigs, and a few small bits have an ibanez RG8420Z with painkillers. One track each side with an axefx ultra running direct, with an impulse we made with a mesa recto cab (but with actual celestion V30's. Amp model was the FAS modern. Since this recording we have changed the way we dial in our hi-gain rhythms but i thought maybe this would be useful to show some folk just how huge a C-pig can sound recorded.
Since doing this recording, we now blend the FAS modern with a fryette D60, pump the gain on the fryette/scoop it and back it right off on the FAS and bump up the mids. This gets us much more clarity and openess overall, especially as the fryette stays clear, dry and tight under huge amounts of gain. I'm also going to get some impulses done for my fryette fatbottom cab and see how that sounds in the mix. We've done other pre-production with the redwirez ENGL pro cab impulses and they sound fantastic.
