that's scary...

They made a perfectly good JCM800 sound like a Spider 4.

I am decidedly unimpressed.

I personally like it waaaaaaaaayyyyy more!

I have a TSL601. I wonder if Fortin can make it sound like that... I guess he can.

Spider 4 is 80% of the way there at less than 10% of the price. Save yourself some money!

my friend in Toronto tried to get Fortin to Hulk mod him a Jet City amp this week, but Mike said he's not taking mod orders right now cause he started a big Natas production and won't have time for mods for the next weeks
he's also not making the Hulk mod anymore, since apparently the Natas includes part of the Hulk circuit

Thats reminds of something I'd read. I new some of those mods you can find on youtube were the starting point of the Natas but I didn't know he'd stopped doing that mod until now. I can't remember where I read a lot about it (the natas). I knew the Girth and Grind controls were related to some Garnet amps tone circuits because I read some online discussion that included mike fortin.

that was probably the thread where Larry accused Mike of copying his Dino's bite/punch circuit just based on the fact that Fortin amps kicked Larry's ass on some amp shootout and that the Hulk also had a bass/treble tweaker
Mike educately responded and pointed where he got the idea of using a pre-gain EQ
he's a big Larry fan, and it's sad that Larry is such a douchebag now
I was a big Larry fan also, and 30% of what I know about amp circuits, I learned from his once helpful posts on a couple forums
I tried to contact him twice to ask for a simple opinion, and he was quite rude, unlike Fortin

Man that sucks. Frank who posts as JPF on here has helped me a lot. I've tried to take in as much as I can from books and online and such, but having access to the opinion of someone who has tried a lot of stuff out just makes things a hell of a lot easier to understand, for me at least.

The Larry amps look REALLY nice. It's easy to see why the cost is so high in stuff like that. Great parts, put together SO well. Everything thought out. I have a Garnet circuits PDF with loads of schematics in. If you take the time to go through it you can find lots of nice little ideas. Pretty cool stuff. It makes a change to seeing variations on a theme. I wish I knew enough to design something great from scratch.

It's nice when these guys are open to being asked questions or participate on forums, even when swamped with amp orders and having to work 18 hour days.

I#ve had some email discussions with Mike Fortin over my Steavens amp. He's a totally great guy, super passionate and straightforward. No hesitations to deal with him anyday for amp business.
