What pickups for a Jackson Soloist?
« on: January 05, 2006, 10:13:40 AM »
Hi,
I havent tried any BNK pickups yet, but im going to order a bridge humbucker for my Jackson SL1, which has an alder body, maple/ebony neck, and recessed Floyd Rose, so is on the brighter side. Im looking for a pickup that will sound full and strong and have an exceptional, fluid lead sound. I need a lot of versatility though, something that can back off as well is it can crunch out the classic rock, and chug out thrash, while not sounding overly bright or harsh in my guitar.

Thanks for your help guys!

I have a MM in a custom built dean of very similar spec to your jackson, and in this regard:

"exceptional, fluid lead sound"

its THE best guitar I've ever played. Accoustically the guitar has a rich clear tone on low notes and sings on high ones. The MM draws that right out in the amplified sound. Those woods and this pickup are a great combination (despite the fact that apparently the MM was designed for les pauls...?)

As far as the nailbomb goes.....I cant say.

Hi !

I have two jackson US neckthrus one RR1 and and custom built Death Angel with the same specifications as a solist. The Death Angel is very similar to the solist soundwise.

Tim recomended me the MM for the solist and a nailbomb for the more thin jackson RR1.  I will order a MM next month.

Hows it going with the solist?  :P

Hi everyone, thanks for all the replies. Just as i was getting all excited, the deal with the guy i was getting the Soloist from fell through at the last minute. I had a great deal and everything and it was done as far as i was concerned, but the guy backed down at the last second after I had played the guitar and fallen in love with it. The only change i wanted was to switch out the JB, which suits the guitar nicely, but has a very, very specific sound that just screams 80's hair metal to my ears. Its a good sound, but ive just heard it to darn much. Anyways, now ive got to find another SL1, or maybe something else, i dont know. But im determined to try out some BNk's. Ill keep you guys informed...

Thanks for all the help!

Holy Divers!
I installed a set info my Jackson King-V Korina.
I think these pups are the most greasy, fat and clear pick-ups yet.
A KILLER match for my Jackson.
The old JB's sound dull and lifeless in comparison.

I don't know if it has been explain elsewhere, but is there a big difference between the Holy Diver with alnico V and the future Rebell Yell pickup?

EDIT: Sorry, I've find it here: http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1494&highlight=holydiver

What I know, is that the HD alnicoV's were among the future conisderation of the Rebel Yell to come along.
What I also know, is that I'll get another set of HD alnicoV's, whatever the RY's will be like.
IMHO, the HD's are that good! 8)

How would you define the HD neck tone?

The HD's neck tone is warm and fat, but still retains much clarity.
It seems to be a very open sounding pickup, no mud anywhere, sounds woody. No harshness, and it's not too dark.
It has of course, the same signature tone as the bridge.
It also works great for leads. A great match with the bridge! :D
