Split shaft pots with tele knobs
« on: March 14, 2011, 10:42:46 AM »

My Tele has split shaft pots and I have standard Tele knobs that require solid shafts so every now and again (usually at a gig) the knob flies off.  Is there anything you can put round the shaft to make it more secure, any kind of bushes that convert the shafts?

I could change the pot but I'm to lazy for that and it's a nice pot I'd like to keep....

You can try screwing the grub screw into the gap in the middle of the shaft?

Failing that, padding out the shaft with electrical tape may help?

Can't you just prise the two halves open a bit with a screwdriver?

I've got the opposite problem, I changed the pots to solid shaft ones and for the life of me I can't find knobs to fit the pots now.

yes

Those are good.  I had some (solid-shaft) CGE pots which turned out to have slightly narrower shafts than CTS, but the brass sleeves made the knobs a perfect fit.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

They look like a good idea, although I'd still end up using bluetak :D
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

Thanks.  Unfortunately allparts have none in stock and charge £3 postage so I'll try the tape method...
