oh did you think of ME?

Just kiddin LOL

I like the Schenker man too, and a few other Germans ...

But if you look at how many great players per capita there are comparably, the awesomeness ratio is higher on the island.

Well you're certainly about 10,000 times better than me!

Apart from the Scorpions, Accept, Helloween, Blind Guardian, Bonfire etc you seem to have some pretty decent blues players like Thomas Blug and Gregor Hilden (although I do find those guys' styles a bit too "perfect")

But you're right, there does seem to be a disproportionately high number of guitar greats from the British Isles... or at least there were, in the '60s and '70s.  Not sure if it's still true.

I have to confess most of my all time favourites are not british but american:

robert johnson,
jimi hendrix,
frank zappa,
joe satriani,
pat metheney,
eddie van halen,
john schofield...

changing the subject slightly but another thing I recently noticed just now is all my guitar pedals, recording gear, studio monitors, midi keyboard, the whole lot is from USA....

I may as well just move there!

It's Scandinavians for me mostly. Mainly Swedes and Finns, that Norwegian black stuff doesn't appeal.

we do well here for great guitarists, but not just that - i'm always surprised how musically innovative the british music scene is in general (including modern electronic stuff etc) - for such a small place comparatively. i've thought about it, and maybe its because of the rain and tough london life.. but i don't really have an answer :)

No I think that torch goes to the Germans, Kraftwerk started it all.

I gotta give you The Orbital though, they are/were pretty genius.   :)

yes, kraftwerk are well, as close as you can be to legends in these modern times, they are probably more important than black sabbath.

but i thiink about the prodigy, the drum'bass scene, garage, grime, dubstep.. all coming from uk.. but other countries have alot to say too its true - Germany, Holland, Italy, France, US etc

(and if we talk about German guitarists, my liking of uli jon roth is well known)

I'm always surprised on these kinds of threads how Kossoff rarely gets a mention - he was a monster player and has shaped my style along with Angus and early Clapton.
