Quick wiring question
« on: April 18, 2011, 10:00:23 AM »
Hey,
just a very quick question: In a HSH autosplit wiring, which cables to I have to change to use the other coil of the humbucker?

I right now have the classic Middle + Inner Bridge Coil split, but I donīt like it too much, so I wanne try the outer coil and after that maybe leaving both on, should the split not work.

Thanks for the help guys!

Thanks man, just tried it and it seems to have worked. No I got a brutally bright tone in that position. And when I say brutal bright I mean Irish Tour and Rebell Yell look dark and muddy in comparison.
Will have to try if this ainīt way too much, but first impression kinda says itīs kinda cool in a way. Very agressive and articulate. Sounds extremly lively and organic. Great new flavour and something different for sure.
It might be a problem though that when I switch to any of the other 4 positions is sound, as said, kinda dark and muddy in comparison.

Well you're using the screw coils, so the bridge will be CRAZY bright!

That sure as hell is what I did xD Screw coil bridge + single coil middle^^

If I wanted to leave the bridge fully on and just add the middle, what would I have to do from here?

You'll need to remove the green/white from the 5-way and leave them joined (but sealed under tape).  That should give the you three coils I think?

Leaving the red and black the way they are now, with the outer coil tap?
Can anyone second that?

Try them as they are, but you may find the bucker out of phase with the middle single.  If that's the case, swap black and red  :)

Yeah, had to switch red and black around again, but now it works nicely. I think Iīm gonna stick with this configuration, although itīs not what I expected.
Now in that position I have like a RY with more bass and all in all fuller and a bit smoother + some of that single coil pick sound. Quite cool.

Thanks for the quick help mate!
