Stuart Ryan was at the PRS Clinic I went to last week and played this piece.  My jaw nearly hit the floor  :o

He prefaced it saying he would play three parts at once on a guitar.  Yeah right we thought

He starts with a bass line, then adds a chord sequence, then finally the melody.  His finger dexterity is amazing, and Paul Smith was in total awe as we were!

Will get a watch when I get a chance a bit later.

The finest acoustic player I've ever seen is Antonio Forcione, is usually at the Edinburgh Festival and is always amazing. Lots of jazz guys (and no doubt folky fingerstyle cats) do the bass/rhythm/melody thing at once.

That's insanely fantastic , I guess he never gets to show off like that when doing stuff for GT magazine .
It wasn't a mistake, it was chromaticism, I swear.

That's pretty astonishing. In the line of flashy acoustic guitarists, I've seen Clive Carroll a few times and he's an amazing player:

I think the subject line here says it all ... it's amazing to see.

Unfortunately it's lousy to listen to.

Cheers Dave!

I attempted something similar ages ago, tis interesting how he does some of the lead notes staccato so he can still move around the fretboard.

All I managed was 2 chords with with a basic melody on top, or just holding bass notes while adding a random melody.

:o - any clips of him on youtube playing it?

Probably a bit like when you realise your new girlfriends ex was a porn star (this has never happened to me although I would feel inferior if it had)
I think I hate being indecisive.

I've seen him a few times in Manchester.  Great technique but without that he'd still be great for just having the coolest vibe of anybody you are likely to see, also with a good sense of humour.
I've never seen anybody use the a downtuned bass string like him either, like a double bass and sliding his finger underneath the string and lifting it way off the fretboard.

Not that I can find, I'm afraid.

To be honest, I'd probably feel inferior if my girlfriend's ex had been a librarian, never mind a porn star.

Highly unlikely scenario though.  If I'm ever lucky enough to actually get a girlfriend, the relationship's not going to be based on my studly bedroom skills....  :|

Back on a relatively serious, and sort of in keeping with the thread subject, this reminds me of when I briefly owned Rob Chapmans PRS SC245. I sold it on fairly quickly, great guitar but I didn't really feel I was worthy. I never got comfortable with playing it. Not sure why, perhaps it's because I knew where it had been before and that I would never get to that standard. Strange really considering it is just a few bits of wood and metal.
I think I hate being indecisive.
