I had no such issues with my "gentleman's equipment" and hopefully you will be free of any problems. I had the mesh repair both times and have never had so much as a twinge since. I had hernia repairs on both sides- hence the 2. Also the scarring second time around is minimal though not so good for the first- not that it matters being clothed most of the time.

it might sound gross but my surgeon said that some fat from around the intestine sometimes drips inside and that's why some folks have junk pain and some don't after the surgery. if they have to clean the fat from the insides well, i'll let you imagine how traumatized the poor sods after they recover from anasthesia!

Got a date for mine now 23rd June. Good because I can get a couple of paying gigs out of the way, the rehearsals for them, and have a nice long paid leave recuperation for a few weeks, then off on my hols.

Saw surgeon today, he said, "How about I do it in 4 weeks time!!!"

How are you mending now  Keven?

Tell you what this thing has enhanced my tone. Been lugging round a Peavey Studio for clean tones in a souldband I play in. Last nights rehearsal, I just couldnt even try lifting a heavy amp, so I did the practice with my little modded Valve Jnr Combo, that I had written off as not being clean enough when I last used it through a cabinet

Blow me if that little amp didnt sound really sweet with both an MIM Classic Tele, and a Squier 51. On its own, no cab.

Nothing like a hernia for making you rediscover small valve amps again

Slightly changed the date for mine now, got to wait a few more days.

Now just over two weeks and counting, but getting a bit nervous for pain/recovery/complications and stuff.

Hope the surgeon fixes me up as good as they do Premiership soccer players

Ive had much worse abdominal surgery a dozen or so years ago, but the memory has faded.

So, I have to say I am rather aprehensive, but at the same time looking forward to not being either trussed up or bulging out.

Got out all my lighter guitars for post op noodling, and hoping for nice warm weather at the end of June/start of July :)

As an aside, I've never really understood what a hernia is. Anything that makes your bollocks ache can't be good. Unless it's too much sex. If you got the hernia from too much sex I raise my glass to you.

my particular hernia was my intestine making its way into my ballsack. that's what we call inguinal hernia.

i don't think my description can get any more blunt XD

Well, feel a bit more reassured now, after having my pre-op yesterday. Had a longish chat with the Ward Sister and a brief one with the surgeon who happened to be there.

Surgeon said that they dont do the keyhole op so much there as he said to be honest the modern open op makes a cut not that much bigger than the combined ones of the keyhole op, plus keyhole goes all the way through muscle, whereas the open one only goes through the top layer and the skin itself so apparently healing times are not that different. Plus keyhole has risk of damage to organs and sometimes has to be abandoned and the open one performed instead anyway.

Ward Sister told me that as far as pain is concerned, the hospital give you 5 days of strong painkillers, and her words were that she bet me that I would use no more than half of them anyway.

I hope shes right  :!:

Mind you given that the ward is on the 1st floor, and the car park is a loooooong walk away, I may need them to get to the car when my wife comes to pick me up later that day :o

Didnt see an elevator, and not many wheelchairs. :?

Said that 1st day I have to walk 10 minutes for every 1 - 2 hours awake time
2nd day I had to double that
3rd day I had to try and walk a mile or so.

Amazed at the relaxed anaesthetic rules now too. Back 12 years ago, I had to starve for 24 hours with no fluids for 12 hours before.

In at noon, I can eat well until midnight, they encourage you to eat a light breakfast before 7.30, then able to drink black tea, and clear fluids till 11am. Beer doesnt count apparently.

Used to be starvation and bed rest. Now its eat drink and mobilise!!

And posting on guitar forums!!

good luck with everything! it's not so bad but even if it's hard, walk around as much as you can afterwards. i felt worst after sitting down too much.

my recovery is now very good and i walk at a normal speed. stretching up to reach something high sometimes causes some pain but i see it as a reminder of ''be careful!'' so it's all good.

This time tomorrow, I'll be in.........

Where did that time go?

I'll soon be able to post if it was "AAAAAAAAAARGHHHHHH!!!" or "Was that it?"

Hope its the latter and I can enjoy more of my time off, and spend time posting about guitars again

Wish me luck guys
