Do I need a third Les Paul?
« on: May 12, 2011, 11:25:51 AM »
I mean, do I really? GAS has got me again - an amazing Les Paul Custom 57 VOS for a good price.  Part of me really wants it and knows that it's a guitar that will suit me down to the ground, but my rational side is struggling with the fact that I already have two expensive LP's, a 335 and a 355.  I don't need it, but I want it and can afford it, although I am currently without and income and that makes it weird.   One of my rationalisations is that it will hold it's value over time so isn't money spent but converted into guitar-shaped capital.

What do you all think?

if you are without an income i would definitely say no.

Until I read the "without income" I was shaping up for "of course you need it!!".

It depends exactly what you mean by "without income", but if it was me I'd be telling myself "no way" in that situation.

With the others, if you've got a steady income coming in, then yeah..go for it. But nothing? Bad idea dude

Not as much as I need a sixth stratocaster.

So yes, I think you should buy it.

Even with an income, sadly, you don't. Neither do I. Just... play more! And be happy!   :D

I'll meet you half way, you can buy it but only if you sell one of the others.

One in one out.  That's the rule for without steady income purchases.

That's just my rule though.  Obviously I suffer from the same condition so am probably the best to advise...

Well, I say no income but I am in the process of setting up my own business which will provide an income. I also have no mortgage or kids and a large sum in the bank from a very profitable property sale. So, if the LP holds it's value in the long term it is another source of capital.

Do you need a third Les Paul...
No. No, you don't. But then again, this is a lass with 4 SGs, so what do I know? :)
I can see the argument about not having an income, but with such low outgoings... That's not quite such an issue.
How much do you want it? That's something only you can say. I've managed to stop spending money on guitars... by not buying guitar magazines. :)

Buy it.
Buy it now.
It's a good price.
Buy it.
It will probably be "the one"
Buy it.
If you don't like it you can always move it on (for a small loss. PM me)
Buy it.
Just think how much it will cost when you come to get one later on. You'll kick yourself for missing such a bargain.
Buy it
Buy it now.

Perhaps Evil Clyde is you inner mind.  Are you sure you don't have 2 logons?

Like fight club.

But guitar club.....

I say buy it if you want it, you won't lose much money on it even if you end up selling it.  If you don't you will never know....

If you buy it. You can't buy food.

Simple as. Last time I checked, you need food to stay alive.

I'm trying to set up a business as well and what little money I do have is going to have to go on it....... but if you have the money then fair enough, if home life and the business aren't going to suffer then why the hell not.

The question is whether you're going to have time to play it when the business is up and running?
Advice worth what you just paid for it.
