New guitar needs BKPs
« on: May 15, 2011, 02:43:36 AM »
Hey guys,  I recently bought a Jackson SLSMG. The thing plays amazingly, but the active pickups in it are... not quite to my liking. I knew what I was getting into with the EMGs, but couldn't turn down a good deal on such a nice guitar.
I play mostly post-hardcore in drop D. Lots of dissonant intervals, augmented chords, tapping, stuff like that. I'm looking for more of a crunchy tone that packs some heat, and can clean up well.
Something like this:

The guitar is a neck thru mahogany body.
I was thinking either Crawler or Miracle Man, but it's hard to choose with the varying amount and quality of reviews and audio/video clips.
Thanks for any suggestions

I can't see a Crawler doing what you want at all or even the Miracle Man. This is tricky as I really didn't like the tone in that clip at all, however, I'd agree with Eric that a Nailbomb would give you that tight, hairy aggression while also making the sound a bit fuller and more organic.
BKP owned:

Bridge - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; A-Bomb; Holydiver; Miracle Man; Sinner; Trilogy Suite

Neck - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; Holydiver; Sinner; Trilogy Suite

Nailbombs, without doubt

EDIT: Alnico that is. I don't think the ceramic would be suitable
