New pickups for a strat
« on: May 15, 2011, 07:51:37 AM »
Hi guys
I wanna upgrade my mexican strat.. Im looking for a porcupine-tree-ish sound, i think "crystal clear" can describe it. now I know they use PRSs with humbuckers but ive wondered if I can get a similar sound with singles. If just one or two pickups would be enough, I'd prefer that..
Thanks!

I think you'd need a Trilogy Suite in the bridge to get the kind of thickness you want, though it will still have a distinctly single-coil flavour. A nice clean neck coil like a Mother's Milk would work well in conjunction with that for a very clear and woody strat tone

A TS would certainly beef up the bridge and has enough juice for searing solo's. As Nolly says, if you want some vintage crystal clear tones too, the Mother's Milk would pair nice, but you could also look at Apaches, which are a bit fatter, but clear anyway. Love the clean tones of those (says an IT-user).
