« on: May 24, 2011, 11:19:36 AM »
anyone know where to get this stuff? - you see older Marshall 4x12s lined with acoustic foam and I'm gonna try this (IF I can find the stuff).

anyone?

I use it to sit underneath my amp and between the top of the cab, to stop vibrations at high volume, but have never used it inside a cab before.

the uberkab does something similar. it uses roughly 30mm thick dacron on the rear panel. when I spent some time reading into this, the idea seemed to be that it reduces standing waves in the cab, and somehow artificially creates the effect of having a bigger cab. dunno if that's true. been a while since I read anything about it, and most of what I read was on various forums so to be taken with a pinch of salt

edit. try blue aran for foam. I think that's how it is spelled

Just use a medium density fibreglass that you can get in B&Q (or enter preferred hardware store here.....)

It'll do the same job (if not a better one), though only prevents standing waves down to a certain frequency, it's about mass against porous and elastic properties. You could experiment with using a more rigid high density type normally used in acoustic panelling for a stronger effect, though you might find it harder to install as it won't stuff like that rolled packs do.

I should really do a quick article on how to make acoustic panelling really easily, I find most of the companies rip you off for something you can do easily yourself with barely any effort.

Thats my understanding too.  I want to put it in my 1x12 I use for gigging mainly - see how much 'bigger' the cab sounds.
