« on: January 13, 2006, 04:58:44 PM »
can't get the simms watts- i havent got thirty quid... JUST THIRTY QUID!!!!

and my parents wont lend me the money, trying to teach me about money or sumthing or other. so anyway heres the link to the simms watts head, id rather someone else gets if i cant:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Simms-Watts-100-watt-valve-guitar-amplifier-Amp-head_W0QQitemZ7381626083QQcategoryZ10171QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting

BUT NOW: my attention turns to something that i CAN afford-- £9.99, a guitar body. the phrase the seller uses is...

"EARLY 1970'S JAPANESE LAWSUIT-ERA LES PAUL BODY"

now obviously i under stand the "early 1970's japanese" and "les paul body" part of it but Lawsuit-era??? or is it "the 'lawsuit' era"????

does anyone recognise this phrase at all!?!?!?!

lawsuit era refers to the time when japanese factories, in particular the Genko Gakki (?) factory, used to knock out copies of Gibson, Fender etc that were cheaper and better quality than the US market ones. This lead to the Lawsuits, and as a result the Jap stuff wasnt commercially available outside Japan. Manufacturers include: Orville, Greco, Burny, Edwards and more.
The large print giveth, and the small print taketh away...

It could be Ibanez, but more likely any Japanese-made guitar of the time. I don't think Tokai were sued by Gibson in the 70's (at least). I've seen some adverts on ebay use this phrase, when it wasn't really of high standard.

ahhh thanks guys. yer the quality could actually be terrible but i really dont mind cause it's just a cheap project guitar that i can do up. but having said that it looks alright aesthetically- has binding and carved top.

the seller said he thought the badge might have been 'Avon'- ring any bells any one???

Read the first paragraph of this:

http://www.manchesterguitartech.co.uk/upgrades.html

From what I can gather it was a brand owned by Rose Morris.
