Don't worry, the Crawler isn't muddy at all. It's smooth and warm but has plenty of articulation and definition

I was just recommended Abraxas or Holy Diver by a guitar tech in the city here.  He said that he LOVES the Holy Diver for rhythm hard rock / metal, and that he likes the Abraxas better for lead / cleans.  Tough call.  I listened to some Abraxas clips someone here put up on Youtube, and they were brilliant!

I really REALLY like the VHII set but I would put them in something like a Les Paul.  I don't know that they would get on with the Godin LG.  I also LOVE the Crawler / Black Dog but the guitar tech opines that the crunch tone from both of these is much more plain and boring.  He said the Abraxas and Holy Diver have a lot more of that gritty character I like.

For what it's worth, I usually use the bridge pickup for high gain rhythm crunch and scorching leads, and I use the neck for cleans, low gain crunch chords, and legato passages.

I'm quite sure with that big lump of mahogany that the BDs would suit it more than Abraxas or Crawlers!

Crawler = not boring. Yes, less open then the Abraxas, but still articulate and crunching/growling in a very pleasing way. And with more oompph. But, you are gonna to be happy with the Abraxas or the BD too.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

I'm most likely going to go with a Crawler set.  I'll need the versatility.
