Pick ups for BC Rich Jr V 7
« on: July 18, 2011, 03:00:29 PM »
I got a Jr V 7 last week and it's great except for the pick ups.  I run a Boss MT-2 and GE-7 and the BDSM's in this guitar are muddy where as my ESP AX-250 with the EMG-ESP pups it came with sounds much better.

The Jr V is mahogany body, maple neck through and ebony fret board.  I was looking at an A-pig as I like a deep bottom end.  Something that works well across grind core/industrial/death metal.

Anyone had any experience with A-pigs in this combination of wood?

I think you would like the Ceramic warpig better.

Are you a Pat o' brien fan? Seems like your gear is somewhere over in his ballpark :P

I do have a few Cannibal Corpse CD's around.  I've always like that mid 90's death metal sound and the MT-2 is perfect for it but I want to get a metal core too at some point to put a more modern edge on the sound.

The A-Pig could be too warm in mahogany 7-string and mush up the low tones. I think a Painkiller, Aftermath or a C-bomb are the better choiches in this case.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

Might go with a painkiller as I do run a lot of bass now on the pedals(bass maxed out on MT-2 and +5 on the 100 and +10 on the 200 with the GE-7 and 3/4 bass on the amp).  It's going mushy now with the BDSM's and it's annoying.

Yeah, what he said.

I have a Clay Piggie in my main 7, and it's absolutely crushing!!

Not to disagree with your other suggestions (I think they're good ideas), but it's a maple neck-through with ebony fretboard and mahogany wings, most of the tone will be maple-based here. I don't think that would be too slack for an A-pig, but C-Pig sounds like the ticket here in any case.

on another note. how do your mids look like? is it somewhere like 3-3? or 3-0?

Do you scoop your mids, have max bass and alot of treble too?

Are you 16?

Something tells me that you should think of emg-81's if all of the above are true.

Mids are low. Lots of bass and a good amount of treble and I wish I was 16 again lol.

EMG 81 7 here in Australia are ridiculous in price.  Double the price of 81's and almost double the BKP prices on the site.  About $300 AUD a pop which is why I'm looking at BKP.

Now that I think about it got just about as much maple as mahogany.

Thanks for the advise.  I just want to avoid mushy bottom end as it pisses everyone off.

Edit: Ordered a C-Pig

GJ! you wont be dissapointed. Now all you need to do is to play around with the pickup & pole height and you'll never change it out

Well got it and welded it in.  It's dark and I had to haul back the bass on the amp and pedals.  It's border line of being too dark but it sure gives a nice booming note at B.  I don't play in band but I'd say I would get lost in the mix but for playing at home its great.  It's very similar to the BDSM I took out but it doesn't go muddy.  It would be perfect in my Warbeast 1.  Getting Peavey Vypyr tube 60 soon so will get a much better sound amp wise then and wont have to use the metal zone.

Really pleased I got it though :)

You will readjust to the BKP.

When i got my first BKP i had to completely rethink my EQ on my amp.

Once you are rid of the MG30 you will see exactly what i mean with this as it will have a more drastic tonal effect and i think you will be a lot happier once that happens
