the 4x12 is in a peavey 5150-slant cab, the other cab is 2x15" + 2x8" - I cut 2 8" holes into a marshall 2x15" bass cab. :)
That's crazy. What 15's are they, specifically?
Furthermore, where can I hear this?

Cheque's in the post! :D

Although actually I didn't use the bass cab on that particular recording. Next one I shall insist that all 4 speaker types get used, especially now I have the aftermath (that recording was with the miracle man) :)

next time I'll let you use my Tele if you ask nicely

From all speakers I tried, the original Greenbacks in my '73 Marshall cab get my vote. They work for any style, even bad baddd metal, and sound amazing at any volume (better when turned up, obviously).

I'd love to try some M75s from Scumback though, but shipping from US kills it.

I've not much experience at all with cabs, most of the time it was at gigs, and I didn't really take note of what the cab was, I just played. Two notable ones though I suppose was I played a Marshall MG half stack, and absolutely as reported, it sounded like canned bees , the other notable one being I played a Marshall TSL half stack and was mighty impressed at the time.

Just ordered my very first cab that I will actually own though ! The Crate 120 watt FW4x12b. I got it for an absolute bargain of a price at £75. So I know it's not the greatest cab in the world, but I couldn't *not* buy it at that price. Hopefully my Blackstar ht 100 head will make up for any shortcomings the Crate may have.

Strange and probably stupid question to ask you amp gurus....
I know the Crate Flexwave head is a Solid State amp, and it's the matching cab that I've bought. I also know the Blackstar HT100 that I have and will be using the Crate cab with, is a valve amp. Will this cause any issues? I'm guessing probably not, because the cab can run 120 watts, and the head is only 100 watts. I'm just speculating that maybe a Valve amp runs a little hotter than a Solid State amp and the cab might suffer through that? Maybe just at high volumes. Or maybe not at all. Can anyone clear that up?

You'll be fine, mate. Speakers are speakers. Just make sure the impedance is matched when you plug into a valve amp, or you could ruin it.

My favourite speakers are my WGS Retro 30's. I have tried Vintage 30's, G12H30's and some Eminence Cannabis Rex's. The WGS speakers surpass Celestion in every way possible.

Cheers, Crunch.  :)
Yeah, I checked what ohm outputs the cab had before purchase, it matches my head in that regard, so it's all cool.

I have used a few different speakers.

The celestion t75 while nice and chunky is a bit too harsh.

The eminence version however the MAN O WAR is possibly my favourite speaker for any amp other than my own as its a bright amp + a speaker with a fair bit of high end = bad times

Im currently using a peavey 2x12 with vintage 30s whilst they are nice theres something that i just dont like about them but i cant narrow it down to anything specific.

My next purchase is going to be some eminence legend v128s.

I would like to the the black labels that Roo has but i just cant justify spending that on a speaker

V30s, followed fairly distantly by T75s, depending on my mood and the application.

What made you stick to V30s and sell your other speakers?

Solid states are not too picky. My mate got into a nasty habit of not taking note and blew out a Peavey XXX.

It has Zakk Wylde's name on it. What do you expect?
The original EVM 12L's are just about as good (they're what he's been using for years).
If you can find someone naive with some Celestion Sidewinders, try to snag those up. They're eerily similar.

ahh thanks for that i wasnt aware of that. And i didn't even think to look at the standard range. The only thing i know about the EVM speakers is what Roo has said i've never looked into them other than seeing that price and think oh my :S

I can't quite be bothered to look around for some graphs, but it's relatively easy to figure out what kind of qualities a speaker will have by looking at response graphs.
Colour me paranoid, but I would assume that EV doesn't have the graphs for the 12Ls on their site to keep people from realising just how similar the speakers are.
The draw of the 12Ls is their headroom. 300W RMS is massive. However, this is beneficial if you subscribe to the opinion that high powered speakers sound better than the naturally distorted low-powered speakers being pushed a bit too hard. Usually, the early break-up turns lows into mud and highs into razor blades.

I know about reading the frequency graphs etc.

What i should have said is i havent actually looked at any of the other speakers.
