Uh oh - Dropped amp query
« on: July 28, 2011, 06:49:23 AM »
Hi all,
So I had a jam this morning and got my band mate to take my amp out to the car, and on the way he accidentally knocked the amp and it fell from about chest height onto the floor. After a few minutes of explicit profanities, we turned on the amp and plugged in the guitar to find a loud hum/buzz on all channels that was definitely not there before.
I'm still yet to take it to a tech, but I was wondering if anyone could contribute in diagnosing what the problem may be.
The amp is a Bogner Alchemist 212 if that makes any difference.
Cheers!

I've fiddled with the tubes, swapping the preamps out for other ones, all with the same hum still. But swapping from bridge to neck pickup, the hum stopped, which has never happened before. So I doubt its the pickups itself, but might have something to do with the higher treble frequencies?
Anyway I think it might be time for the tech :(

I'm no amp expert, but this latest development would make me suspect it's possibly the guitar?

I'd want to try a different guitar in the amp and, if possible, your guitar in another amp or amplifying device. And just to rule it out, a different lead (and any stompboxes etc out of the chain). If the guitar is ok in another amp and another guitar in this amp exhibits the same problem, then it would definitely be amp tech time for me... :(

I'll try the different guitar thing, but I'd been using it about 10 minutes before the amp was dropped with no problemos. I've also tried without pedals and different leads :(
I hope it's just a tube issue.

If I was you I'd hope it was a guitar issue. Resoldering a wire is gonna cost a lot LOT less than new valves...ANDDDD you'll know your amp can take a bloody good knock

You can drop a Bogner no problem.

Wow.....I wonder if they thought that one through before filming. If that were me, I'd just plug in and play like most other normal people would do.
