Anyone Owned One????
« on: January 18, 2006, 06:06:23 PM »
OK
still looking at guitars to bring back to UK lol.

Now, know Gibson's are 'hot' in UK.
ANything to watch for specifically with an SG or Flying V? I know about LP's but little about the other two. Have heard necks are v.delicate on SG's. And obviously V's are strange to play sitting. Opinions on either?

Also, anyone have any knowledge on CARVIN?????????????
These look incredible for what I can get one for here. Basically USA made, thru neck, alot r active.
They get great write ups on H-C but WHY so cheap? Just name branding? Basically I almost smell a rat. Anyone have/had one? Opinions?

PLEASE

Cheers

Nick

Well I love SGs and as long as you don't drop the buggers on their headstocks they seem to be fine.

Theyre a bit neck heavy though.

Nothing specific on either Gibsons - just watch out for quality control issues.  Check them over thoroughly for bad build quality, and check they sound good of course!

Carvins seem a good spec, but aren't that popular which may be an issue if you decide to sell it down the line.

Hi Dakine I have a Gibson Faded Flying V and is fitted with a set of BK Crawlers and it sounds awesome (thanx again Tim).I had also read about quality issues with these guitars one main point was sharp frets,( I must have been lucky with mine)but on the whole apart from a very small area where the stain has missed the build quality of my guitar is very very good. the price of these guitars is excellent as well, you should be able to get one a lot cheaper in the States as opposed to the UK. This is my main guitar and is well played, in fact im thinking of getting another. I also have a Gibson Les Paul Standard .Oh and dont forget to remove the stock Gibson pups and put in BKP's.
Cheers

A friend of mine bought a Carvin Bass- it was excellent- well made and sounded great- if their guitars are as good then they would be worth looking at though the re sale value has to be a consideration.

Quite a bit.  They're pretty much the same price as Gibson Les Pauls...

They aint cheap but they are alot cheaper than what Gibson commands for a high end custom or standard. for about £1000 you can get the equivelent to a £2500 Gibbo.

i bought one recently £995 reduced to £595 in a sale at my local guitar store and it had a hard case
(same as gibbo but without the pink fur inside)

if you read up on them they are all skilled craftsmen who used to work for gibson, but when they bugger'd off to Tenessee, they stayed at the original plant and started 'Heritage Guitars'.

there real specialty i think is with there Hollowbodys.

I have a H140cm which is like a LP but with a slimer body profile.
these really are class guitars built to custom standards and excellent hardware. put some BKP's in there and you have one mighty instrument!

Always do a quality check on the Gibsons. I haven't tried a Carvin yet but I did hear one once thru a Carvin stack........and I didn't like it at all.

Heritage guitars are ace! But I think Jet guitars are even better.

I first found out about those Jets on Ed Romans Site (that is crazy, his shop - he says the largest on the planet)

they probably are the best designed Guitars in the world. Period. PRS cant touch that stuff. All custom.
I love the way he's made that jack socket feature, thats way cool. he chambers the bodys also which i think is an excellent feature.  some of the wood that guy uses is rare to say the least. apparantly Ed Roman is the only dealer for Jet's. Gotta go to vegas if you want one!
