Ok, I'm fitting Aftermath pickups in my Drop B guitar after being recommended by Tim (I was surprised how much of a nice guy he was) and I'm now thinking of something for my other 2 guitars. I'll list the specs below:

For my Drop C guitar (also D Standard from time to time), I'm going to be playing the same music as I do with my Drop B guitar - bands like Parkway Drive, Bullet, BMTH, Trivium, Children Of Bodom etc. - generally metal that involves lightning fast riffs, crushing breakdowns, fast solos and harmonised melodic sounding leads. To be honest this guitar will probably be for the more upbeat style of metal like Bullet For My Valentine, and my Drop B will be for the more brutal type of metal like Parkway Drive. So what pickup do you think would be good for this guitar. The specs of it btw are: 24 Fret, Mahogany, Neck Thru; Double Cutaway, Mahogany Body; Ebony Fingerboard; Floyd Rose. I'm personally not sure whether to get another Aftermath for this, or have some variety, and get a Miracle Man or a Painkiller.

For my E Standard Strat guitar, I'm looking for a pickup that can play more or less every style (except the heavy side of metal, I have my other 2 guitars for that). I'll probably play a lot of Progressive Metal on this guitar, kind of like Dream Theater, so I'd like a pickup that can pickup up distorted chords and ring out each individual note clearly, provide me with a great clean sound, as well as sounding great for solos. I'd also play a lot of other styles on it such as instrumentals like Vinnie Moore, Steve Vai, Satriani, Petrucci, etc. So I'd really like to have a lead tone that really sings organically and musically. The specs for this guitar are a little bit more complicated, lol. I'm having it custom built so I just thought I'd say I'm unsure atm whether to get a Mahogany, Alder or Basswood body, so If you could recommend a pickup for each of these woods? The definite specs that I'm sure of are, 22 Fret, Bolt On, Maple Neck; Ebony Fingerboard; Floyd Rose with Piezo. I'm still unsure whether to go HH or HSH so if you could recommend a single as well.

Well that's basically it, sorry to ramble on, but I just wanted to get my point accross first time, and get to work on my choices ASAP without spending a year deciding haha.

Cheers

From what I have heard your E standard needs will probably be fulfilled by a Nailbomb Bridge and Coldsweat neck. The coldsweat being very soft and fluid, lot like Petruccis Liquifire, but better (or like the Liquifire Petrucci uses himself).
The NB brings that Petrucci crunch and rock and metal. For the Dream Theater stuff I think it is a save bet.

That is the combo I am looking t buy for my 7 string myself for the stuff you described.
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

For your drop C guitar, I'd recommend checking out the Miracle Man for some variety.

For the E standard instrument, check out the Holy Diver bridge with a Cold Sweat neck as a great combination for any of those builds. If you wanted a matching single, the Irish Tour or Slowhand would fit nicely.

Ok I've decided on the Cold Sweat neck. But why would each of you pick the Holy Diver over the Nailbomb and Vice Versa? I'm confused as to which one of these 2 I should get now lol.

Well, I only tell here what I heard, Nolly has played em all. So when in doubt better listen to him than me ;)
Maybe he can elaborate a bit on why the diver over the NB...something I am interrested in too, as I wanted to replace my Liquifire / Crunchlab with the CS NB combo as I heard it was closest to it...but I heard A LOT of good things about the diver too.

+1 i really want to hear this too. tim told me an Alnico Nailbomb for Alder & Basswood, but a Ceramic Nailbomb for Mahogany. I've messaged Tim again asking what he thinks of the Holy Diver, so I'll wait to hear what he says as well. but I;m lso interested in Nolly's opinion :)

I hear the PK is awesome in dropped tunings. While the AM does also work in E, the PK does not...but when you drop it....oh yeah baby, slaughter on!

I've made a thread on the difference between the Painkiller and Aftermath if you (or anyone else) would care to take a look and hopefully answer any questions I've asked :) http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=25509.msg334775#msg334775

def agree with that, painkiller in drop c will get you more close to the recent bodom sound (heavy mids) than the miracle man since I've compared tone. Check this guy's djenty tone in drop C - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VabHDY-yQBQ , I'm really digging it

If Tim says PK - ignore my previous MM suggestion, go for the PK :)
