Anyone heard their new album yet? I'm not much of a 'Heep fan, but it is pretty good.
The last one I got was
Wake The Sleeper, but I see there have been two more since then. That's a return to the album-output rate of the 1970s!
I don't actually own much of their stuff, but I had a friend at school who was a big fan so I used to borrow his records.
I always find it funny with long-running bands like Uriah Heep, or Deep Purple, Yes, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, UFO, Wishbone Ash - they've been around 40-odd years, but they remain famous for the albums they recorded in the '70s, which was really only the first quarter of their careers. They've carried on producing stuff which presumably sells well enough (extremely well in some cases), but in a way gets largely ignored even by the fans. You buy the album, you like it, but then you go back and listen to the classics again.
It's almost like time has moved at a different pace since 1980 - all this vast amount of incredible rock music got made in the '70s, but the time since then seems to have gone past in the blink of an eye, with many artists taking 5 years between albums and it's not even noticed they've been "away".
I guess I'm showing my age.
