What is the cube like for really heavy metal though?

Out of the hybrid/modelling amps.

The only ones that have ever really stood out as anything special (not great just stands out from the croud) to me were the old Peavey bandit transtube before they put digitial fx on it.

And the line 6 vetta II but that is a bit pricey if i remember correctly. But its basically all the podxt modelling in head format but doesnt have as much of the fizz that the standalone modellers are famed for

there's plenty of gain on the mesa, extreme & dyna amp models of the roland, so at bedroom levels it's fine
for 'very metal'.
i like the roland because it's like an amp, no screen and cursors like a telephone or line 6, and also not millions of absurd
sounds like the line six. just about 8 different sounds that you can adjust the gain and vol for and also eq.(bass, mid treb).
also if you spend as much on switches as the amp costs :lol:, you can have a 4 channel amp, with switchable chorus,
delay, reverb and looper at your feet. i settled with one fs6 f.switch(50£) which gives me 4 channels.
it's plenty loud though and tons of bass for it's size.

You forgot the looper!!! I don't think it's on every model of cube but really useful for laying down a riff and then trying lead ideas over the top

I have tube 60 Vypyr and it's damn loud.  I just play in a bedroom and about 1.5 on the master volume is enough and it goes to 13.  Only trouble with the Vypyr is the Sanpera pedal which is extra.  I got the Sampera II but it's a double dip on the wallet.  You can't access all the presets unless you have either pedal but the II has the display.  I use the krank it preset on the krankenstein modelling with a Behringer HM-300 for tone to get a Swedish death metal tone.  Not as good as the real deal with a Boss HM-2 but good enough for messing about with.  My c-pig roars on this set up but I'm a bit meh with the 6505 modelling on any of my guitars but I haven't really tweaked that preset yet.

Once the tubes are warm it's a great sound.  The effects sound good too.  A good time waster just playing around with sounds.  I've only ever had to reboot it once when I first got it after the first 1/2 hour it just stopped dead but a power off and on sorted it and it's fine since.  I've had it running for a few hours at a time and it's good.  Nice hot Aussie summer will test it though especially when it's pushing the mid 40's outside.  Find out in a few months.

You could also invest in a Line 6 ux2. Its the best buy i ever did!. you get recording software and everything along with it.

I did this with all the free programs which went with it.

Well if you go that route you can get cheaper still with all the free amp sims out there. Some of them sound pretty awesome, tbh.
